Josh Aoki

LEC President

Josh has been with Hawaiian Airlines since 2006. Initially, Josh was not interested in Union work. When invited by Melissa Teshima, then Council 47 LEC President, to serve as a Mobilization Committee Co-Chairperson during negotiations, he agreed reluctantly. However, as he observed the positive changes among the Flight Attendants resulting from mobilization efforts, he was inspired by the work he and his partner, Kawehi Apo, had accomplished. Witnessing the impact of their efforts was a rewarding experience and provided significant motivation.

The transition to the presidency was a natural progression after Melissa decided not to run for another term as LEC President, leaving a vacancy. Now into his third term, Josh has encountered numerous challenges. Although the role has proven to be more demanding than anticipated, he is supported by an exceptional team of Officers, for whom he remains deeply grateful.

Paul Ikioka

LEC Vice President

Paul Ikioka is LEC Vice President for AFA Hawaiian Council 47. Born and raised on the island of Maui, he attended Maui High School. He went on to attend college at California State University Long Beach and completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, as well as his MBA.  

Paul had a 30-year career as a Financial Analyst at the Boeing Company, when he decided to become a Flight Attendant at Hawaiian Airlines. Citing Quality of Life as the main driver behind his career change, he started on the line in May of 2018 and never looked back. 

Paul initially volunteered to join the Grievance Committee as a way to learn more about the Collective Bargaining Agreement. His experiences on the team made him realize that education of our Flight Attendants is the best way to help them to be able to advocate for themselves, and protect the rights that our contract provides.  

Paul is committed to be transparent, fair, and continue to promote further education of the contract. He is excited to start on this new journey and continue to serve and support all of our team members.

Beth Hayes

LEC Secretary

Beth Hayes became a Flight Attendant with Hawaiian in 1988, almost 33 years ago. Before that, she taught high school in Lanai and then at Kamehameha Schools. She is originally from Kailua and graduated from Kailua High School. Beth moved to Los Angeles three months into her career with Hawaiian with several of her classmates – with the thought that this would be just for a short time. 

Then she met her husband and married, and stayed after relocating to Huntington Beach. Once Beth’s children were older, she got involved with our Union – starting on the Grievance Committee in 2015.  She became involved with grievances because she wanted to help correct so many wrongs taking place at the time with people’s schedules etc.

In 2017 she joined the leadership as the LEC Secretary, which is her current position today. Beth has really enjoyed her work with our Union and loves being able to help Flight Attendants get the correct answers to their questions/problems.
