Council 43 Update – Local Council Meeting: November 6

Join us in-person at our next Union meeting on:
Friday, November 6, 2026.
Your presence at this meeting is highly encouraged.

Reasons to attend:

  • Our entire Joint Negotiating Committee will be present at this meeting to give us an update and answer our questions.
    LEC Officers Kela, Martin, and Soon will provide updates on their work and our base.
    Learn about our Committees and what they do!

Also: Free food– lots of it! HEAVY PŪPŪS.

Meeting Details

  • We will host two (2) sessions with an hour-long break in between.
  • Both sessions are (2) hours long.

Council 43 Update – Hurricane Nolo

This message is for pre-merger Hawaiian Flight Attendants

Hurricane Nolo

Aloha nui kākou,


As many of you may know, Tropical Storm Nolo is likely to hit both the islands of Hawai‘i and Maui as early as tomorrow. The storm will make its closest approach to the south of Hawai‘i island by Friday evening into early Saturday morning.


Weather Forecasters predict that Tropical Storm Nolo is on track to strengthen to a strong Category 2 and possibly Catergory 3 Hurricane with heavy rainfall which will cause dangerous flash flooding island-wide on Hawai‘i and possibly Maui.

Hawai’i Island and Maui Commuters

First and foremost: Please ensure that you and your ‘ohana are prepared for this weekend by securing your homes, and checking on loved ones in an effort to keep everyone safe.

If you are scheduled to work this weekend and need to commute, please take the following steps.

Tune into Local News and Civil County Alerts

  • Weather, road conditions, and airport operations can rapidly change as this weather system moves south of Hawai‘i.

Stay informed on our operation and how we are shifting internally.

  • Keep an eye on your Company email, and text notifications from Crew Scheduling & Inflight for updates throughout the weekend.

Missed Flights – Unable to Commute

If you cannot make it into work due to the storm: Please speak with an Operations Inflight Supervisor as soon as possible.

  • Please ensure that you’re following the commuter policy should flight cancellations and delays take place.
  • You need to be a registered commuter for this policy to apply.

Irregular Operations

An irregular operation situation is likely due to Tropical Storm / Hurricane Nolo approaching the islands.

Both interisland and trans-pacific operations will be affected. This will impact inbound & outbound flights from KOA, ITO, and OGG.

Please familiarize yourself with our Collective Bargaining Agreement (Contract) with special emphasis & attention to Section 7: Hours of Service.

This section outlines our duty period limitations, legal rest, and legality for keeping us on our scheduled pairing or repositioning the crew to operate.

There are resources available to help navigate us through these situations, especially in irregular operations.

If clarification for your situation is needed: Please reach out to any of us in the Leadership, or our Reserve Committee Chairs Joni & Sasha.

If you are not sure about the application of the contractual language: Please reach out so we can help bring clarity and understanding on whether something is legal.

Decisions guided by how we’re feeling in the moment, or based on incomplete information or assumptions can cause added stress to an already stressful situation.

Flight Attendant Support – EAP

Our HNL base Union Employee Assistance Program (EAP) under the direction of Committee Chair Namahana Lota is available to offer support and resources during and after the storm.

EAP and all of us in our Union Leadership are here for you should you need any of us.

Irregular Operations Reminders

We try to be available as much as possible, but sometimes calls, texts, and emails may unintentionally fall through the cracks because of the high volume of inquiries we receive in natural disaster situations.

When one Crew stands by for further instructions and details from the Company, another Crew could be out there in a similar or more complex situation that requires immediate attention.

Every situation is different, and things are not always as simple as they seem. The best way to keep ourselves safe and steady in these situations is to stay well-informed, stay alert, and use the resources available to us.

Things may get frustrating and hard at times, but know that we are all in this together and will get through this storm.

After having preparation meetings with the Company yesterday, we are working together to have ALL HANDS ON DECK to support our Crews and operation through the weekend.

Joint Contract Negotiations Session 20 – October 2026

The Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) met with management in Seattle for three days of collective bargaining, addressing critical sections of the contract. Through productive discussions, the JNC reached Tentative Agreements on Section 6 (Seniority), Retiree Pass Privileges, and Retiree Health Insurance. The committee plans to continue using both Interest-Based Bargaining (IBB) and traditional methods to resolve complex issues during negotiations.
