LAX Worksheet Update
Aloha LAX,
Many years ago, when our flying consisted of 1 to 2 pairings, a monthly worksheet was created as a quick reference to help members calculate items such as over duty times and drop times for the applicable pairing.
As our base has grown and flying has evolved, there are now multiple pairings in any given month. With the addition of the SEA domicile to Council 47 in April and added flying, maintaining worksheets for every pairing and scenario is not sustainable.
As a result, effective January 1, 2026, we have made the hard decision to suspend these worksheets. We know how frustrating this news can be, especially for members who have relied on these worksheets over the years. They were created to simplify a process that can feel overly technical, and we recognize the value they have provided.
Below is a simplified cheat sheet to help you independently calculate your legalities, along with references to the applicable contract sections. We strongly encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with these calculations, especially in the event of an irregular operation.
In Solidarity,
Josh, Paul and Beth
Over Duty
Section 7.F.2.a.(2)
When a Flight Attendant exceeds 14 hours on duty, they receive 1 hour of pay, but not credit, for each hour or fraction of an hour beyond 14 hours.
Example:
- Check in at 0700
- 14 hours on duty is reached at 2100
- Over duty begins at 2101
- If your flight blocks in at 2046 plus :15 minutes, your first OVR14 hour begins at 2101
Drop Time for Exceeding Duty
TURNS SCHEDULED 14 HOURS OR LESS
If your pairing is originally scheduled for 14 hours or less, your maximum on duty time is 16 hours.
QUICK FORMULA:
Check in + 16:00 hours = max duty
To figure out drop time away from base:
16 hours – scheduled return flight time – :15 minutes + :01 minute
All in LDT – Local Domicile Time
TURNS SCHEDULED ABOVE 14 HOURS (LAX Sideletter)
THE RULE: When turns are scheduled above 14 hours, LAX is governed by the Sideletter duty extension.
- Take the second flights printed arrival time
- Add 2 hours
- Subtract the second flights printed block time
- Add 1 minute
Example:
Turn Flight 933/934
Printed arrival time of Flight 934 is 21:30
Add 2 hours = 23:30
Minus block time of 5:15 = 18:15 plus (+) 1 minute
Drop time is 18:16 LDT (local domicile time)
To figure out drop time away from base:
Second flights printed arrival time + 2:00 hrs − second flights printed block time + :01 minute = DROP TIME
