Reserve Webinar Recap | Watch the Recording
Aloha Council 47,
Mahalo to everyone who attended our recent New Hire Reserve Webinar! We enjoyed the opportunity to connect with you and walk through important contractual provisions, reserve terminology, and the procedures Crew Scheduling uses when assigning flying.
For those who were unable to attend, or would like a refresher, we’ve put together a brief overview of the three main sections we covered during the webinar.
In Solidarity,
Zach and Megan

LAX and SEA Base Updates
LAX: We provided an update on the Company’s trial of increased Open Time flexibility in October, intended to provide Flight Attendants with additional opportunities to trade and adjust their schedules. Updates were also shared regarding the California clock-in process and LAX airport transportation developments.
SEA: Members received reminders about the November 1 blazer requirement, airport transportation considerations during overnight train maintenance, and the importance of reviewing the SEA Letter of Agreement alongside the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Part 1: Reserve Basics
The first portion of our webinar focused on the fundamental rules and contractual protections governing reserve duty.
Topics included:
- Reserve Reporting: Reporting requirements for LAX and SEA reserves, including the three-hour reporting provision.
- Reserve Availability Periods (RAPs): How RAPs are established, their duration, and when reserves must remain available.
- 24-in-7 Rest: Federal rest requirements providing 24 consecutive hours free from duty within a rolling seven-day period.
- 1-in-7 Protection: Contractual requirements governing calendar days off.
- Additional Days Off (ADOs) and Guaranteed Days Off (GDOs): The differences between ADOs and GDOs, including red-circle days and the contractual protections surrounding each.
Part 2: Reserve Definitions
The second portion focused on understanding the terminology used throughout the reserve scheduling and assignment process.
Topics included:
- Reserve Self-Assignment (RSA): The process allowing reserves to select available flying.
- Call Me First / Call Me Last: How reserve preferences influence assignment priority.
- Availability Buckets: How reserves are grouped based on their remaining days of availability.
- Augmented Airport Reserve (ARC): The purpose of ARC assignments and how they differ from regular reserve flying.
- Daily Standby: Understanding the standby process and how it relates to reserve assignments.
Part 3: Order of Assignment
The final portion provided a detailed walkthrough of how Crew Scheduling assigns flying to reserves.
Topics included:
- Self-Assignment: How RSA fits into the overall assignment process.
- Pre-Assignments: How certain flying, including Language Qualified and longer groupings, may be assigned before other available flying.
- Availability Buckets: How one-day, two-to-three-day, and four-or-more-day availability affects assignments.
- Assignment Priority: How Call Me First preferences, seniority, pairing credit, and remaining availability determine assignment order.
- ARC Assignments: How ARC is incorporated into the assignment process.
- Daily Standby: How newly uncovered flying is assigned after the initial assignment process.

Our goal is to help every Flight Attendant feel more confident and informed when navigating reserve. We encourage you to review Section 8 of our Collective Bargaining Agreement, familiarize yourselves with the applicable Letters of Agreement, and reach out to us whenever questions arise.
We also concluded the webinar with a member Q&A, where we addressed several questions submitted in advance and during the session.
Mahalo again to everyone who joined us and participated! We look forward to continuing these educational opportunities and supporting you throughout your time on reserve.
