We wanted to provide a quick clarification regarding the FFA sign-in paperwork referenced in our recent Officer Update.

FFA paperwork may be submitted either by emailing it to Premium Pay or by submitting it to a manager in the Village.

The most important takeaway is that, regardless of which method you choose, please submit the paperwork in a timely manner. Premium pay for the FFA, Lead Coach, Galley, and other applicable premium positions relies on this paperwork being received and processed.

New Hire & Reserve Webinar

Council 47 will be hosting a New Hire & Reserve Webinar on October 8 at 3:30 PM PT. This webinar is geared toward our newer Flight Attendants and those currently on reserve, with Council 47 leaders available to provide information, answer questions, and discuss available resources.

Q3 CBT: Don’t Forget to Complete It

Please be aware that drug testing may occur at an outstation while on a layover.

If a Flight Attendant is selected for testing, the rest of the crew is not required to wait for the testing to be completed. The Company should arrange alternate transportation for the Flight Attendant being tested once testing is complete.

If you are the Flight Attendant being tested, please inquire with the tester or contact Crew Scheduling to ensure alternate transportation to the layover hotel has been arranged.

Dues Increase & Available Rebate

An AFA dues increase was implemented in June. To help offset the immediate impact of the increase, the Alaska+Hawaiian MEC opted into a step-increase program at the last Board of Directors Meeting.

Rather than immediately paying the full dues increase, members can request the applicable rebate as either a credit to their account or a cash payment.

FFA Should Submit Sign-in Sheet ASAP

Recently, we have had many Flight Attendants reaching out to Payroll regarding missing premium pay, and a recurring reason has been that the sign-in sheet was not submitted to Premium Pay.

The First Flight Attendant (FFA) is responsible for emailing the completed sign-in sheet to Premium Pay as soon as possible. If the paperwork is not submitted, it can delay proper compensation for all premium-paid positions, including FFA, Lead Coach, and Galley.

If you worked a premium position and do not see the appropriate pay reflected, please contact the FFA from the associated flight and confirm that the sign-in sheet was emailed to Premium Pay.

FFAs, please make submitting this paperwork promptly a priority. Timely submission helps ensure everyone receives the pay they are entitled to without unnecessary delays.

Travel to Training & IROP Guidance

We have seen an increase in travel issues involving Flight Attendants traveling to training. Please remember that Training Travel, the department responsible for coordinating your travel to training, is a separate department from Crew Scheduling. Required rest still applies when traveling to training.

If an IROP or delay impacts your scheduled travel and may prevent you from receiving the required rest before training, your first contact should be the Training Travel department [HATraining.Inflight@alaskaair.com]. Because Training Travel is only available Monday through Friday during regular office hours, if they are unavailable, contact Crew Scheduling. Crew Scheduling can help determine whether you remain legal and advise whether you should take the scheduled flight or need to be reaccommodated on a later flight.

Also remember that your travel to training is considered Company Business travel, not a deadhead. Because of this, Crew Scheduling may not have the same visibility or ability to automatically address a legality issue as they would with a deadhead. If your training travel is disrupted, be proactive and reach out. Do not assume the issue will automatically be identified or corrected.

When bidding for your schedule, your PBS practice awards should reflect a travel day before and after your training. Please review your practice awards carefully. If the appropriate travel days are not reflected, contact the PBS Committee for assistance.

LAX October Open Time Flexibility Trial

During a recent conversation about LAX’s 26% sick rate, an LAX member offered a potential solution: provide greater flexibility with Open Time trades and drops.

Currently, Crew Scheduling establishes the number of Reserves needed each day to protect the operation. Based on Reserve coverage, Open Time can become more restrictive, resulting in trades or drops being denied.

The broader idea raised by the member was simple: if Flight Attendants have greater ability to adjust their schedules through trades and drops, that flexibility may also help reduce sick calls.

Your AFA Leadership took that suggestion directly to the Company at our next meeting, and Crew Scheduling agreed to test more flexibility with Open Time coverage during the first two weeks of October. They will monitor the results, including any impact on sick calls and the operation, and assess what may be possible moving forward.

This is an opportunity for LAX. If greater flexibility results in more successful trades and drops while maintaining adequate coverage and improving sick leave trends, we hope it can demonstrate the value of continuing that flexibility beyond the trial period.

This is also a great example of why your feedback matters. Galley conversations can identify problems and solutions, but bringing those conversations to your AFA representatives gives us the opportunity to take your ideas directly to management and advocate for change.

California Timekeeping Update

The Company will be implementing a new timekeeping task for California-based Flight Attendants, beginning with Alaska Flight Attendants. The Company has stated that this initiative is being implemented to comply with California state timekeeping requirements.

Hawaiian Flight Attendants based in California are expected to follow with implementation sometime in 2027.

The Alaska+Hawaiian MEC has been adamantly opposed to the Company’s proposed process. While we recognize the Company’s obligation to comply with California law, AFA believes there are other ways to meet those requirements without adding additional tasks and responsibilities to a Flight Attendant’s workday, particularly when failure to complete the required timekeeping task could potentially lead to discipline.

We are watching the Alaska rollout closely to identify issues before this process reaches Hawaiian Flight Attendants. We will continue advocating for a better and more practical process that meets the Company’s legal obligations without unnecessarily burdening Flight Attendants or creating additional opportunities for discipline.

We will keep our LAX members updated as we learn more and as the anticipated Hawaiian implementation gets closer.

LAX Parking & Transportation Update

A change is on the horizon for how employees travel between the West Lot and the terminals once the LAX People Mover is operational. This change was initiated by LAWA.

Under the proposed process, the West Lot shuttle would take employees to a People Mover station, where they would transfer to the train to reach the terminals. The reverse would occur after arrival.

The new process should provide more consistent and reliable transportation times, but will likely require additional walking and a transfer between the shuttle and train. Management has asked LAWA to test the process and travel times before implementation.

The employee transportation change is currently projected for January 2027, and management plans to provide additional details as we get closer. AFA will continue monitoring the process and its impact on our LAX members.

New-Hire Management Meetings & Comp Checks

We are looking into the compensation for new-hire Flight Attendants who attended the September 9–11 management meetings and competency checks.

This was a first for Hawaiian, with comp checks being conducted in conjunction with the management check-in meetings. Because these activities were combined, AFA wants to ensure that Flight Attendants are compensated accordingly for the time they were required to attend.

We remain in discussions with management regarding what that compensation will look like and will provide an update once we have more information

NGP Coming to the SEA Village, October 3-5

Representatives from National Group Protection (NGP) will be available in the SEA Village October 3–5 to assist members with supplemental insurance benefits.

Whether you are interested in enrolling, already have NGP coverage and want to review your benefits, or simply have questions, we encourage you to stop by and speak with an NGP representative.

Some NGP plans also include wellness benefits for routine care, such as an annual physical or eye exam, so current participants may want to make sure they are taking advantage of the benefits available under their coverage.

Planning to stop by before your flight? Please arrive early enough to allow sufficient time to meet with an NGP representative before you need to report.

Augmented ARC

Next month, SEA S3001 is scheduled to exceed 14 hours, triggering the Augmented Crew provisions under Section 7.C.2.d. Flight Attendants working this pairing should familiarize themselves with these provisions, including the contractual requirements and duty limitations that apply to augmented crews.

Crew Scheduling also plans to utilize an Augmented Airport Reserve (ARC) under Section 8.D.3. An Augmented ARC is assigned specifically to protect an augmented flight and has a four-hour airport standby period beginning at the augmented crew’s scheduled check-in.

A prior mediation further clarified Augmented ARC utilization:

• The flight the augmented Reserve FA is standing by for will be printed on the DFS.
• The augmented airport standby period is limited to 4 hours following check in.
• The augmented Reserve FA may only be assigned to international (not interisland) flying.
• The augmented Reserve FA cannot be assigned to alternate flying until after the augmented flight to which they were originally assigned to cover has departed.
• The augmented Reserve FA can only be assigned to a flight scheduled to depart within 4 hours of the start of the ARC standby period.

SEA After-Hours Shuttle

AFA was recently made aware of Flight Attendants getting stuck in the SEA N Gates after midnight when the train was no longer operating. We immediately contacted the Company and advised that this after-hours transportation information needed to be communicated to our Flight Attendants. Gina Lorenzo sent that information to SEA Flight Attendants via Company email on September 23.

As a reminder, when the train is not operating between 12:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., McGee ramp service teammates provide a shuttle between the N Gates and D Concourse.

If you are scheduled for late-night Airport Reserve or otherwise find yourself in the North Gates after the train stops operating, please be aware that this shuttle is available.
