        March 20 AFA Town Hall Meeting- Central Annex 1-5pm

        Hello Seattle Flight Attendants!

        Please remember to join your LEC Officers for the AFA Town Hall meeting on March 20th, 2014 from 1-5pm in the Central Annex of the Sea Tac Airport, mezzanine level. Parking is free on floors 3, 5, 6, 7, 8.

        This is not a company town hall meeting- This is an AFA meeting where you will have a chance to sit down with your local officers and share your thoughts on the upcoming negotiation process.

        Upcoming Council 19 Base Meetings

        March 20, 2014 Town Hall Meeting

        On March 20, 2014 Council 19 LEC Officers will host a “Town Hall” meeting. The intent of this forum is to discuss your thoughts on the upcoming negotiation process and provide you an opportunity to learn more about the roles that each of your elected officers performs.

        This is a great opportunity for you to connect with your leaders and share your thoughts.

        All candidates for the upcoming election are invited to attend this forum and meet with the members and the local officers.

        When: March 20, 2014

        Where: Central Annex Room, Mezzanine Level Sea Tac Airport

        Time: 1pm to 5pm

        Parking paid for on all levels except Level 4

        April 16, 2014 AFA-CWA Base Meeting

        On April 16, 2014 Council 19 is hosting an AFA-CWA Base Meeting to discuss the upcoming Board of Director’s Meeting (BOD). The BOD is a yearly meeting where all members of the MEC attend to discuss the business of the union. This year International Officer Elections are taking place and it will be important to gain your input on the candidates so I can vote for a candidate that best represents your interest.

        In addition to International Officer Election the BOD will be discussing the financial future of our Union and making necessary fiduciary decisions on the budget. Please come to this meeting to review the important agenda items and offer your feedback.

        When: April 16, 2014

        Where: Central Annex Room, Mezzanine Level Sea Tac Airport

        Time: 1pm to 5pm

        Parking paid for on all levels except Level 4

        Council 19 SEA Election Schedule

        The Council 19 Election window will soon open. Starting March 6th voting instructions and activation codes will be mailed to all Seattle Flight Attendants. If you do not receive this information from AFA International by March 11, 2014 please contact AFA International/Membership at 1-800-424-2401, press 1, ext 706.

        In accordance with the Article VIII of the Constitution & Bylaws, all Councils in Category II must nominate and elect officers for the term beginning July 1, 2014 and ending June 30, 2017. Local Council Officers to be elected will be LEC President, LEC Vice President, LEC Secretary, and 2 Council Representatives.

        As a union member, you have the right to nominate candidates for office, to run for office and to cast a secret ballot.

        Nominations and elections are governed by procedures outlined in the Association’s Constitution & Bylaws, Article VIII and the AFA Policy Manual.

        All nominated candidates who have filed a Commitment to Serve, who received at least two (2) votes and are members in good standing at the time of the count will appear on the election ballot.

        Seattle Negotiation Road Shows February 6, 7, and 8!

        Upcoming Seattle Negotiation Road Shows

        The next round of Negotiation Road Shows hit Seattle February 6, 7, and 8. The 6th and 7th dates will take place in the Central Auditorium, Mezzanine Level, of  the airport. The sessions are from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm both days. Free parking on levels, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

        The show on the 8th will be held at the Sea Tac Hilton (across from the airport). The first session is from 9:00am to 12:00pm and the second session is from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Parking in the structure behind the hotel is paid.

        Printed T/As

        Please ensure that you bring your copy of the T/A to the roadshow to ensure that you have it to reference.  The initial printing run of 3,300 T/As (enough for each F/A to have a copy) has been completely distributed; printed copies will not be available at the roadshow.

        Ballot Questions?

        Flight Attendants who do not receive their voting instructions with the 16 digit activation code must call the AFA Ballot Helpline at (800) 424-2401, option 1 then extension 706.

        Flight Attendants who have dues or membership issues must call AFA Membership Services at (800) 424-2401,  option 7.

        The office is staffed Monday through Friday 930AM EST to 5PM EST.

        Voting Instructions: As with the LEC Officer Elections, Flight Attendants will receive a ballot packet containing the voting instructions including a 16-digit activation code and the voting guide. These will be mailed from the mail house in Maryland on 1-14-13. The activation code is specific to each Member therefore new instruction or voting guides will not and cannot be mailed. If a Flight Attendant did not receive their ballot packet they must contact the AFA Ballot Helpline. A new activation code with instructions will be emailed from the voting system directly to the member.

        Dear Seattle Flight Attendants,

        We hope that the New Year is starting off great for you! Your LEC Officers have been very busy this month with the day to day events plus the busy Negotiation Road Show Schedule. LEC President Laura Masserant accompanied the Negotiation Committee during the first week of the January road show schedule. It was a great experience to visit with Portland and Anchorage and work with the committee!

        We have a few announcements that we want to share with you, so please take some time to fully read the following information:

        Your Council 19 LEC Officers want to remind you that nominations are currently underway for the upcoming 3-year term of office beginning July 1, 2014.

        Nomination Schedule:

        • Mail date:              1-07-2014  (Voting Instructions and Activation Code are mailed)
        • Polls open:            1-13-2014  (Voting begin online only)
        • Polls close:            2-12-2014  2:00 PM EST 11:00 AM PST(Nomination ballots are tallied).

         Election Schedule:

        • Mail date: 3-06-2014  (Voting Instructions and Activation Code mailed)
        • Polls open:            3-11-2014  (Voting begins online and by telephone)
        • Polls close:            4-11-2014  (Election ballots are tallied)

        If you have not received your Nomination Instructions, please contact the AFA Ballot Helpline at 1-800-424-2401 EXT 706 (press 1 then EXT 706). If the call is not answered immediately, please leave a message. All calls received by 5 pm ET will be returned the same day.

        The AFA Ballot Helpline can provide you with a new 16-digit activation code. This will allow you to enter the voting system and cast your vote. The 16-digit code will be sent via email.

        When calling to obtain a new 16-digit activation code, please verify your address and current status with AFA. If you must leave a message, please make sure you leave your name, airline, employee ID & telephone number along with your email address. The email should be in your inbox however be sure to check your spam/junk folder just in case.

        Only Active Members in Good Standing are eligible to cast a vote.

        If you did receive your voting packet containing your 16-digit number, you may go directly to the website www.afacwa-elections.org to cast your vote.

        Are you interested in AFA work? Seattle has openings on local committees and we could use your help!

        Benefits Committee- You will assist FAs with Leaves of Absence Worker’s Compensation Leaves. Training will be provided. Contact LEC Chair Kathy O’Malley for more information.

        Safety, Health, and Security Committee- This committee advocates on behalf of the FA group to secure a healthy, safe, and secure environment while at work. Training is provided. Contact LEC Chair Susan Lee for more information.

        In addition to voting instructions for the Tentative Agreement (TA), Seattle members are being mailed nomination ballots and information for the upcoming LEC Officer Elections. If you are interested in running for one of the 5 LEC Officer positions (LEC President, LEC Vice President, LEC Secretary-Treasurer, and 2 Council Representatives) and have questions you can contact any of your current Officers or Bob Kenia at AFA International:
