Hurricane Nolo
Aloha nui kākou,
As many of you may know, Tropical Storm Nolo is likely to hit both the islands of Hawai‘i and Maui as early as tomorrow. The storm will make its closest approach to the south of Hawai‘i island by Friday evening into early Saturday morning.
Weather Forecasters predict that Tropical Storm Nolo is on track to strengthen to a strong Category 2 and possibly Catergory 3 Hurricane with heavy rainfall which will cause dangerous flash flooding island-wide on Hawai‘i and possibly Maui.
Hawai’i Island and Maui Commuters
First and foremost: Please ensure that you and your ‘ohana are prepared for this weekend by securing your homes, and checking on loved ones in an effort to keep everyone safe.
If you are scheduled to work this weekend and need to commute, please take the following steps.
Tune into Local News and Civil County Alerts
- Weather, road conditions, and airport operations can rapidly change as this weather system moves south of Hawai‘i.
Stay informed on our operation and how we are shifting internally.
- Keep an eye on your Company email, and text notifications from Crew Scheduling & Inflight for updates throughout the weekend.

Irregular Operations
An irregular operation situation is likely due to Tropical Storm / Hurricane Nolo approaching the islands.
Both interisland and trans-pacific operations will be affected. This will impact inbound & outbound flights from KOA, ITO, and OGG.

Please familiarize yourself with our Collective Bargaining Agreement (Contract) with special emphasis & attention to Section 7: Hours of Service.
This section outlines our duty period limitations, legal rest, and legality for keeping us on our scheduled pairing or repositioning the crew to operate.

Irregular Operations Reminders
We try to be available as much as possible, but sometimes calls, texts, and emails may unintentionally fall through the cracks because of the high volume of inquiries we receive in natural disaster situations.
When one Crew stands by for further instructions and details from the Company, another Crew could be out there in a similar or more complex situation that requires immediate attention.
Every situation is different, and things are not always as simple as they seem. The best way to keep ourselves safe and steady in these situations is to stay well-informed, stay alert, and use the resources available to us.
Things may get frustrating and hard at times, but know that we are all in this together and will get through this storm.
After having preparation meetings with the Company yesterday, we are working together to have ALL HANDS ON DECK to support our Crews and operation through the weekend.
