Join The Picket Line: Support American Flight Attendants on Thursday, November 16

    November 9, 2023 09:00

    Master Executive Council (MEC)

Flight Attendants at American Airlines, part of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA), have been in negotiations for a new contract since January 2019. In August, they took a strike authorization vote, and an overwhelming 99.47% of American Flight Attendants authorized APFA to call for a strike if necessary. Despite this, American management continues to delay the process by offering concessionary proposals or, more recently, showing up to the bargaining table with no proposals at all.

American Flight Attendants have had enough of these delaying tactics and are taking action! On November 16, they’ll conduct a systemwide informational picket to demonstrate they are unified, committed, and ready to fight for the contract they deserve. It’s time to stand up and show American Airlines management that Flight Attendants and workers everywhere are united in demanding an end to corporate greed. Be on the lookout for a picket line near you, and plan to show your solidarity!

    APFA Systemwide Picketing Event Information

    Date: Thursday, November 16

BOS, CLT, DCA, LGA, MCO, MIA, PHL: 11 AM – 1 PM ET
ORD, MSP: 11 AM – 1 PM CT
    DFW: 3:30 – 5:30 CT
    PHX: 9 – 11 AM MT

Join The Picket Line: Support United Flight Attendants on Thursday, October 26

    October 19, 2023 09:00

    Master Executive Council (MEC)

United Airlines management continues investing in new planes, new gates, new service, and new lounges—but not a new contract for United Flight Attendants. Time is up for United management to make good on their corporate slogan, “Good Leads the Way,” with the contract improvements United Flight Attendants have earned. They are ready to stand strong together to let the company know their dissatisfaction and the expectation that management needs to work with the Union to address their concerns constructively.

Let’s show our solidarity and join United Flight Attendants on the picket lines during their upcoming Day of Action on Thursday, October 26. Together, we can send a powerful message to United Airlines management and the entire airline industry that Flight Attendants deserve nothing less than the best. It’s time to take action and demand the respect and recognition we all deserve. Plan to participate and show your unwavering support!

Join The Picket Line: Support Southwest Flight Attendants

    September 13, 2023 09:00

    Master Executive Council (MEC)

    • It’s time to stand in solidarity with our Flight Attendant family at Southwest Airlines as they head to the picket line.
    • Southwest Flight Attendants will be holding an informational picket in Denver on Wednesday, September 20, to address their ongoing fight for a fair contract.
    • If you’re going to be in the Denver area, plan now to join the picket and sign up using the link below.

This summer, the spirit of solidarity is thriving as Flight Attendants and workers all over the country unite against corporate greed and mismanagement. Our Day of Solidarity events received immense support from fellow Union Members who joined our picket lines. Their backing helped to make our message to management louder and clearer. It’s time to stand with our Flight Attendant family at Southwest as they escalate their fight for better pay and working conditions. Keep reading to find out how you can help!

Flight Attendants at Southwest Airlines, part of the Transport Workers Union (TWU), have been working under a contract that became amendable in November 2018. They have been facing the brunt of operational failures and meltdowns, while Southwest executives have been receiving bonuses, and shareholders have been given dividends and stock buybacks. Management continues to drag their feet in negotiations and has failed to bring to the table a contract that honors the dedication of Flight Attendants with fair pay and working conditions.

On September 20, Southwest Airlines Flight Attendants will hold an informational picketing event in Denver, CO, to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to fight for the contract they deserve. Plan now to stand with them in solidarity and demand that management at Southwest Airlines Make It Right for their Flight Attendants. Let’s come together and show management at Southwest that Flight Attendants and workers everywhere stand united in this fight and demand the pay and working conditions we have rightfully earned.

TWU Local 556 Picketing Event Information

    August Day of Solidarity

Our day of Solidarity was a day to be proud of. We would like to thank all our members who came out and braved the hot weather, to stand shoulder to shoulder with your union brothers, sisters and siblings as we fight for what we deserve. The event was a huge success systemwide. In Seattle, we had close to 1,000 members present. We would like to thank all the volunteers that came and helped make sure that the event was a success.

We would like to give a special thanks to our guest speakers and representatives that attended the event. Sara Nelson (AFA-CWA International President), Congressman Adam Smith (WA-09) and Seattle City Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda! A warm thank you to our Government Affairs Committee for helping organize those special guests!

Also, thank you to our fellow Flight Attendant families from Horizon, United, Hawaiian, Piedmont, Envoy, Omni, American, Southwest and Delta who showed their support by joining us. In addition, thank you to Pilots from Alaska, United, Delta, Horizon, American and Southwest. We are all in this together.

Please stay tuned for future events. We will get the word out via email and social media when something is planned.

    Red Bag Tags

A new red AFA luggage tag was introduced at the Day of Solidarity event. This is another way to demonstrate our solidarity in the fight for our contract. Watch our Facebook group for posts on where/when you can pick up one of the tags!

    Public Support

Did you know we have a customer facing landing page on our AFA Alaska website? This page is full of information on what your friends, family, and the flying public can do to support our Flight Attendants. There are several resources on the page, we ask that you share this with your contacts! One immediate thing the public can do is sign our petition.

    CBT Reminder

Do not forget to complete your CBT by the September 30 deadline. It is important to remember if you do not complete the required training, the discipline is progressive. If you are already in steps of discipline, failure to complete your CBT will move you up the steps, up to and including discharge. If you encounter any technical issues, please contact the ITS Help desk. To verify your CBT is complete, check that your Cornerstone transcript lists under “Completed” and check your email for a confirmation.

Don’t forget, you get 1TFP for completing the CBT, and if you complete it in August, it will count towards your single month $350 PPP bonus for August!

Alaska Flight Attendants are struggling to afford living expenses, let alone enjoy holiday shopping for their loved ones. It’s time for Alaska management to prove they care with an industry leading contract!
On December 14, 2023, United Airlines Flight Attendants will take to the picket line - their holiday spirit of unity and solidarity burning brighter than ever. They are determined to strengthen their power and demonstrate their unwavering commitment to securing a contract that genuinely values their work and contributions to United Airlines. As holiday travelers take to the skies, United AFA Flight Attendants will ensure their voices are heard loud and clear. They are unified and ready to do "Whatever It Takes" to get the contract they have rightfully earned!
Starting a career as a Flight Attendant is more challenging than ever due to low pay rates that haven't kept up with the cost of living. Many new Flight Attendants face difficulties securing housing and food in expensive cities where they are based. Our EAP Committee has created a new website page with comprehensive information on resources to help Flight Attendants overcome these obstacles.
Fume events can occur on flights for various reasons, such as oil leaks or mechanical issues. Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of air quality, fume, and hypoxic events, so you know what to do if you suspect one is happening. More resources are available on the Air Quality Subcommittee page of the AFA Alaska website.
Today, Alaska Air Group (AAG) management has announced its intent to acquire Hawaiian Airlines, while maintaining the unique identity of both brands.
Our AFA Scheduling Committee Chairpersons met on Tuesday, November 28 to discuss their ongoing program of work to represent Flight Attendants interests related to lineholder scheduling. The Committee also met with management to receive updates and discuss issues and problems that Flight Attendants are experiencing with scheduling, pairings, and bidding. Your Local Scheduling Committee is available to answer questions, provide clarification, or help to resolve any lineholder scheduling-related issues. Please don’t hesitate to reach out!
