Immersion Training Per Diem Overpayment
Over the past several months since Immersion Training began, AFA has been actively working with the company regarding the payment of immersion training per diem. Unfortunately, there have been multiple payroll errors throughout this process. We understand the frustration these issues have caused and want you to know that we have been working behind the scenes to ensure the company complies with its contractual obligations and corrects these errors.
Issue #1:
We were initially made aware that no per diem had been paid for immersion training. AFA immediately notified the company of its contractual obligation under Section 4.A.2. to pay a minimum of eight (8) hours of per diem for each day of training.
Issue #2
When attempting to correct the issue, the company processed payments at each Flight Attendant’s hourly rate of pay rather than at the negotiated per diem rate, creating additional payroll inaccuracies.
Issue #3
While correcting the overpayment through the recovery process outlined in Section 27.K.2., the company failed to provide advance notification to affected Flight Attendants prior to making deductions from paychecks. This lack of communication caused unnecessary confusion, anxiety, and frustration.
We recognize that ongoing payroll errors have been burdensome and have eroded confidence in the payroll process. We share your concerns and continue to hold the company accountable for these repeated mistakes.
We encourage all Flight Attendants to carefully review their pay statements and verify that they are being paid correctly. If you identify any discrepancies, please report them to HA.fapay@alaskaair.com and copy your Council 47 Officers at 47@afahawaiian.org. Keeping us informed helps us track trends, advocate on your behalf, and apply additional pressure for timely and accurate resolutions.
