Premera Medical Insurance Network 2017 Changes

        December 20, 2016 21:29

        Additional Clarification for

        Premera Medical Insurance Network Participants

        Seattle Flight Attendants,

As many of you may be aware, a confusing letter is being sent to Premera Heritage Prime insurance network participants. This is the network for Premera plan participants for 2016, for both the PPO and the Consumer’s Choice PPO. If you are currently enrolled in a Premera Heritage Prime PPO, please continue reading this update for clarification on the 2017 Premera insurance network changes.

Premera Heritage Prime is the name of the current 2016 Premera insurance network. For 2017 anyone who selected a Premera insurance plan is changing from the Heritage Prime network to the Heritage Plus network. What this means is that the form letter sent to your home from Providence/Swedish/Kadlec does not pertain to you. Swedish/Providence/Kadlec hospitals and medical providers are covered under the 2017 Premera Heritage Plus Insurance network.  The network name has changed, however the coverage remains the same.  Providence/Swedish/Kadlec medical providers will be in our 2017 Premera Heritage Plus network.

You will receive new Premera insurance cards with the Premera Heritage Plus network indicated on the card.  Essentially, the network name has changed but the network coverage and participation for Swedish affiliates will remain the same.

Again, anyone who is currently on the 2016 Premera Heritage Prime network may receive the form letter from Providence/Swedish/Kadlec. If you elected to continue with Premera coverage in 2017, your coverage will change January 1, 2017, to the Premera Plus network.

If you have any questions you can contact Seattle Benefits Committee Vice-Chairs, Kathy O’Malley and Terry Taylor.

Deny NAI Day of Action SEA TAC Airport

        December 20, 2016 21:27

        VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

        In Seattle

        Skybridge 4~ SEA TAC Airport

        Tuesday, December 20, 2016

        7:00 am to 11:00 am

        12:00 pm to 4:00 pm

        Wednesday, December 21, 2016

        08:00 am to 12:00pm

Norwegian Air International  (NAI)  flagged (registered) in Ireland, sets up a ‘flag of convenience’ model in aviation—the same business model that destroyed U.S. shipping. NAI will use this ‘flag of convenience’ model to hire crews from countries with the lowest labor and safety standards, such as Malaysia or Thailand.

This business model puts all of our jobs at risk.  It essentially sells out good paying jobs here in the United States, to the lowest bidder overseas.   If you think this will not impact our industry and our jobs, you must think again.   U.S. based airlines will be forced to compete with NAI, and possibly other airlines under this flag of convenience business model.  Employees  will ultimately pay the price as our company will be competing with ultra low wage carriers.

Watch this video to learn of about the dangers of flag of convenience

        NAI DAY OF ACTION

        DENYNAI DAY OF ACTION:

We need volunteers to hand out informational flyers to passengers and crew in SEA.

We realize this is short notice during a very busy time of the year. The increased passenger traffic during this period will help build awareness.

        RSVP to: christelnhall@gmail.com or adam.clarey@afaalaska.org.

Please volunteer and help bring attention to this issue!

Your job may depend on it!

        Council 19 (SEA) Election Cycle

        December 13, 2016 19:15

        Council 19 (SEA) Election Cycle

         January 24, 2017 to April 11, 2017

        Dear Seattle Flight Attendants,

Please be aware there are two steps in the election cycle: (1) Nomination process, and (2) Election process.

Previous information sent to Council 19 members highlighted the first step of the election cycle, the nomination process, which begins January 24, 2017.

To clarify the full election cycle your Council 19 officers have compiled the following information. You can also view the election cycle process on line at http://afacwa-elections.org/councils/ala-council-19-sea/

        Alaska Airlines Council 19 SEA

In accordance with the Article VIII of the AFA-CWA Constitution & Bylaws, all Councils in Category II must nominate and elect officers for the term beginning July 1, 2017 and ending June 30, 2020 (three year term). Local Council Officers to be elected will be LEC President, LEC Vice President, LEC Secretary and two (2) Council Representatives.

As an active member in good standing, you have the right to nominate candidates for office, to run for office and to cast a secret ballot.

Nominations and elections are governed by procedures outlined in the Association’s Constitution & Bylaws, Article VIII and the AFA Policy Manual.

        ELIGIBILITY

In order to participate in the nomination and election process a Flight Attendant must be an Active Member in Good Standing.

This means you must not be on a leave of absence, you must be a current member of the Association of Flight Attendants and your AFA account should be in good standing (no delinquent union dues).

For those who are on probation, your probation end date must be on the count date or before in order to participate in the nomination or election process.

        TWO-STEP NOMINATION & ELECTION PROCESS

        Nominations

The first step in the process is nominating candidates for each office. Every active AFA member in good standing is eligible to nominate one Flight Attendant to each LEC Office for their respective Local Council. There is no candidate list provided for Nominations since any active AFA member of the Local Council, who is in good standing and is committed to serve, is eligible to be nominated.

You will receive a Voting Notice and Instructions guide via postal mail which includes a personal 16-digit activation code that is required to log into the voting system in order to obtain a username and password. You will then be able to access the balloting section and cast your vote. The entire process can only be accomplished via the internet in one session, but please ensure you completely follow the instructions.

        Elections

The next step in the process is electing those members who have committed to serve the membership and received at least two nomination votes. Each member in good standing is eligible to vote for one candidate for each LEC Office.

You will receive the Voting Notice & Instructions along with a Voting Guide listing the candidates running for each office. This mailing will include a new personal 16-digit activation code, and similar to the Nomination process, it will allow you to access the voting system via phone or internet to obtain a username and password and cast your ballot. Due to account security requirements you are issued a new 16-digit activation code for each election.

        COMMITMENT TO SERVE

Each member who receives at least two nominations and who intends on running for office must complete a Commitment to Serve form. This form is found on the AFA Election website:

        www.afacwa-elections.org

        ELECTION WEBSITE

The AFA Election website contains information regarding the voting process, eligibility to vote and step-by-step guides and videos. The official certified results for each nomination and election will be posted on this site under the specific Council’s page.

        Nomination Schedule:

MAIL DATE: 01-24-17     Voting Notice and Voting Guide are mailed containing your personal 16-digit activation code
