SEA Domicile Negotiations – September 2025

        September 6, 2025 13:00

This message is for pre-merger Hawaiian Flight Attendants

        • Our SEA Domicile Negotiating Committee met with management from September 3 through September 5 in Honolulu
        • Our Negotiating Committee is focused on addressing those issues that are important to anyone who may be considering transferring to the new, permanent domicile including: moving expenses, staffing, grouping construction, and the ability to return to your domicile of origin
        • Additional discussions with management will be scheduled soon

        Negotiations Update

The SEA Domicile Negotiating Committee met this week for three days of collective bargaining with management.  The SEA NC met with management on September 3 to September 5 in Honolulu. At the negotiating table for this session were:

Representing AFA and our Flight Attendants  Representing Management
Tim Green, Committee ChairpersonJoe Wonderly, Vice President, Labor Relations
Martin Gusman, Committee MemberAllen Thieman, Vice President, Inflight
Joshua Aoki, Committee MemberCarmen Williams, Managing Director, Labor Relations
Jeffrey Fuke, Committee MemberKalani Sloat, Senior Director, Labor Relations
Lea Franzoi, Committee Support RepresentativeAdriene Tom, Specialist, Labor Relations
Paula Mastrangelo, AFA Senior Staff Negotiator

After several weeks of planning, we were able to schedule and hold a week of bargaining with management regarding the proposed Hawaiian Flight Attendant domicile in SEA. During negotiations this week in Honolulu, we exchanged several proposals. Per Section 27.D.2 of our CBA, management must negotiate a supplement before opening a new permanent domicile. These negotiations are crucial for establishing a permanent domicile that effectively supports our Flight Attendants’ interests and addresses the key issues that impact us directly.

Here are some key areas we’re focused on:

        • Transfer Processes – strengthening protective elements of the transfer process for those who may be interested in moving to the new domicile
        • Return to HNL or LAX Domicile – addressing the concern of Flight Attendants transferring to SEA and potentially wishing to return to their Hawaiian domicile before the merging of the Hawaiian and Alaska SEA domiciles
        • Staffing – ensuring that staffing is sufficient to meet operational demands
        • Moving Expenses – advocating for fair and comprehensive compensation related to any necessary relocations
        • Operational Concerns – defining the type of flying and pairings that will be constructed in the domicile
        • Safeguarding Existing Bases – protecting our HNL and LAX domiciles during this transition

The SEA Domicile Negotiating Committee is committed to transparency throughout this process. Together, we will forge a stronger foundation for our careers and ensure an improved quality of life.

Thank you for your support and engagement as we navigate this endeavor. Should you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your local leadership or email the SEA Domicile Negotiating Committee at sea@afahawaiian.org.

Hawaiian Airlines SEA Flight Attendant Domicile Update – August 2025

        August 21, 2025 09:00

This message is for pre-merger Hawaiian Flight Attendants

We want to provide an update on the planning progress for the Hawaiian Airlines Seattle (SEA) domicile announced by the Company, which management intends to open in 2026.

Since the initial announcement, two key developments have occurred:

        SEA Domicile Negotiating Committee

Section 27 D.2 of our contract provides that AFA and the Company must negotiate before establishing a new domicile. Recognizing the need for an expedited timeline, the pre-merger Hawaiian members of our MEC have chosen a Negotiating Committee prepared to address this process efficiently. The Negotiating Committee Members are Joshua Aoki, Jeff Fuke, and Martin Gusman.

MEC President Tim Green will serve as the Chairperson of the committee, and Paula Mastrangelo, our AFA Staff Negotiator for the Joint Negotiating Committee, will also take on this role for the SEA Domicile Negotiating Committee.

While meeting dates for negotiations with management are yet to be scheduled, we promise to keep you updated every step of the way.

        AFA Local Council Representation

According to the MEC Policy and Procedure Manual, specific considerations must be addressed regarding who within AFA will represent the Flight Attendants at the new base [Article X.2].

After thorough consultations with AFA International and careful review of the policy requirements, the pre-merger Hawaiian voting members of the MEC—LEC Presidents Martin Gusman and Joshua Aoki—have unanimously agreed that Council 47 will represent Flight Attendants based in SEA. This means the Council 47 Officers and Committees will support both LAX and SEA-based Hawaiian Flight Attendants once the SEA base is operational.

        Questions?

We recognize that many details still need to be worked out regarding the SEA Hawaiian Flight Attendant domicile. Many of these will be addressed in our upcoming negotiations. We are committed to providing you with as much information as possible throughout this process. If you have any questions or need clarification, please feel free to reach out to your LEC President.

Mahalo for your continued solidarity and support as we navigate this together.

Management’s Planned Hawaiian Airlines Seattle Flight Attendant Domicile

        June 30, 2025 21:00

Today, management announced plans to establish Hawaiian Airlines’ 787 Pilot and Flight Attendant bases in Seattle by early 2026. This move aims to enhance operational efficiencies for Alaska Airlines as it expands its international presence in the Seattle area. According to the terms of the Merger Transition Protocol Letter of Agreement, the Company is allowed to open Flight Attendant domiciles for either pre-merger carrier in the same city where the other pre-merger carrier has an existing domicile once it obtains a Single Operating Certificate (SOC), which is anticipated to be secured by the end of October.

It’s important to note that the Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendant contract requires management to negotiate the terms for opening a new domicile in accordance with Section 6, Title I of the Railway Labor Act, as amended.

We recognize that this announcement may come as a surprise, and many of you may have questions about the implications going forward. Our Master Executive Council (MEC) is committed to keeping you informed throughout this process.
