        Scheduling Committee Meeting Recap – June 2026

        This message is for pre-merger Alaska Flight Attendants

        On Tuesday, June 23, our pre-merger Alaska AFA Scheduling Committee Chairpersons and Representatives met virtually to discuss their ongoing work to represent our Flight Attendants and push for improvements in our workplace. Representing you at the meeting were Rebekah Olds (ANC), Rita Tillou (SEA), Melodie Anderes (PDX), Jaqui Bellenie (SFO), Kanako Yamado (LAX), and Kitty Cohen (SAN). MEC Scheduling Committee Vice Chairperson—Pairing Construction Karen Ferrell, MEC Scheduling Committee Vice Chairperson—PBS Virginia Fritz, MEC Grievance Committee Payroll Representative Julie Thornton, and MEC Scheduling Committee Chairperson Jake Jones were also present.

        The Committee met with Managing Director of Inflight Performance & Crew Scheduling Sara Cook, Director of Inflight Crew Scheduling Terrance Chariandy, Manager of Inflight Crew Scheduling Goose Hlaingmyint, Director of Crew Planning Trisha Bennett, Manager of Crew Planning Colin Beard, ITS Technical Product Owner Nathan McFerren, and other management representatives from Crew Planning, Crew Scheduling, information technology (ITS), and payroll.

        The Committee is next scheduled to meet on Tuesday, July 21.

        Topics of Discussion

        The Committee reviewed several topics during internal AFA-only conversations and when meeting with management. Some items discussed include:

        Local Committee Chairperson Reports

        • PDX (Portland)
          • Delay Reporting: Flight Attendants requested later reports for delays. Questions arose about cut-off times for delays when Flight Attendants were close to reporting for duty. If a delay is posted for more than an hour, Crew Scheduling will attempt to mitigate the impact of a later report. 
          • Deadhead Seating Issues: Flight Attendants expressed dissatisfaction with deadhead seating on recent flights, questioning automation accuracy and practices. We are researching automation for contractual compliance. 
        • SAN (San Diego)
          • Pairing Review: Flight Attendants have questions about legalities and compensation. AFA Grievance Committee Payroll Representative to assist with review of reassignments and stranded pairings. Typically, it takes payroll a week or two to update compensation and pull reports. 
          • Vacation Scheduling: Questions were raised about flying into days off surrounding vacations and compensation. Specifically, how to obtain pay or additional vacation. If you are flown into a vacation day, please contact Flight Attendant Crew Pay. 
        • ANC (Anchorage)
          • Flight Delays: Initial flights were delayed, leading to subsequent flight delays. Reassignment protocols were questioned if flight numbers change. Refer to Section 10.R.4 for applicable compensation. 
          • Mid-Flight Reassignments: Crew was reassigned mid-flight from a SEA turn to later flights and wanted more information about the process Crew Scheduling uses to reassign.
          • Van Delay: A delay for van transportation occurred, with pilots notified but Flight Attendants left uninformed. The Committee asked for a review to determine how management can better communicate about delays. 
        • LAX (Los Angeles)
          • Extended Layover Issues: JNU unscheduled layover resulted in no hotel accommodation for 18 hours, with Flight Attendants on duty paid hotel rates. Crew Planning management is reviewing the situation with API and ensuring we have exhausted all options, as crews were stranded at the airport. 
          • Pre-Boarding Processes: Pre-boarding is not currently offered based on seniority, with no contractual requirements, and suggestions for improved scheduler processes were made. Crew Scheduling management said they would try to make a best effort to offer in seniority order. If you are the senior Flight Attendant and don’t want the pre-board, you can give it to the next junior Flight Attendant, if applicable. 
          • Notification Timeliness: Delays in notifying crews about trip changes were noted, with notifications sometimes occurring at odd hours. Crew Scheduling does its best not to interrupt crew rest and will attempt to notify affected crews typically after 10 hours of consecutive rest. 
          • Crew Pay Notations: Crew pay issues regarding reassignments versus diversions were resolved after initially being classified incorrectly.
        • SFO (San Francisco)
          • Crew Reassignment Confusion: Issues with multiple crew reassignments led to confusion about payment eligibility.
          • Hotel Accommodation Problems: Non-contracted hotel issues reported, with a crew care report filed for follow-up.
          • Trip Structure Changes: Three-day trips are being restructured as two-day trips with premium pay, necessitating a review of efficiency. Crew Scheduling is pulling apart multiday trips around 10 AM based on reserve coverage and availability, so you may see trips that are pulled apart and desirable. 
          • Safety Concerns: Instances of hot airplanes in locations without APUs raised safety questions regarding aircraft readiness for boarding. It is a good idea to file Flight Attendant Incident reports and contact your Local Air Safety, Health, & Security Committee (ASHSC) if there are concerns.
        • SEA (Seattle)
          • Monitoring Open Time: Seattle Local Scheduling Committee Chairperson attended the monthly meeting with the ability to track Open Time with Jeppesen and ITS. Most of the open days closed their TSN thresholds within 60 seconds or less
          • Block2Block (B2B) Issues: Ongoing problems with Flight Attendant no-shows. B2B messaging is not considered positive contact. However, all Flight Attendants are required to review their B2B messaging at the end of duty for notifications from Crew Scheduling. 

        PBS Subcommittee Update

        • July Bidding Overview: High activity noted with efforts to understand and plan for coverage amidst holiday schedules.
        • Bid Awards: The bid awards process was smooth, although higher lows were necessary to ensure adequate reserve coverage, with a forecast of 30% coverage awards coming to fruition.
        • Bid Protests: Protests were manageable this month, primarily centered around coverage understanding. Technical issues with the inflight website led to workarounds.
        • Meetings Conducted: Regular meetings held throughout June, including monthly updates and bid award training.
        • Other Updates:
          • Inflight Website Publishing Action Plan: Collaborations with Crew Planning to create a plan for future publishing issues, ensuring access to awards and reports during outages.
          • Software Releases: Ongoing testing of recent updates with positive results expected for a go/no-go decision soon.

        Pairing Construction and Crew Planning

        • Pairing Selection: Recent pairing selections have been received, with an emphasis on soft locks. The average line value will be 80 TFP.
        • ITS Update: NAVBLUE testing is progressing well, with improvements noted in automation updates.
        • Crew Planning Analysis: Block hours for August are projected over 350K, reflecting a decrease from July. Reserve ratios are at 22.15%, with no scheduled staffing adjustment leaves (SALs).
        • Redeye Flying Trends: Breakdown of redeye flying percentages across various bases, with notable figures for ANC (34%) and SAN (29%).
        • IRROPS (Irregular Operations)
          • Updates on duty starts and layover durations for various routes specific to San Diego and Newark departures, with increased crew connections in all domiciles noted.
          • Requirements for specific flight starts and rest periods were discussed, with attention to crew teaming (keeping Flight Attendants on the same pairing) and TSA mitigation (DLG-ANC/AKN/ANC).

        Crew Scheduling Insights

        • Sick Leave Trends: Sick leave rates reached 13.2%, the highest of the year, with a significant number of daily calls noted.
        • Sick Online Issues: Notable sick online issues affecting operations, particularly in commuter cities, warrant tracking and management attention. There were 96 sick online calls in June.
        • Reserve Utilization: Reserve utilization is trending upwards due to increased absences, with PDX and SEA reporting higher utilization to cover operational needs.
        • Premium Pay Statistics: Premium pay is trending high month-to-date for June. 
        • Reassignments and Fatigue Reports: Total reassignments noted at 538, with deadhead conversions at 386. Fatigue incidents reported at 30 for June, with a notable split between reserves and lineholders.
        • Crew Scheduler Staffing: Anticipation of a new staffing class in two weeks with a new supervisor, aiming to improve scheduling operations.

        What The Committee Is Working On

        1. Resolving Pyramiding Pay Disputes: Discussions are ongoing through the Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) process to clarify payment rules for over-duty pay and day-off violations. Our Grievance Committee is filing grievances regarding several concerns with pyramid pay. These discussions are still ongoing with Labor Relations management. 
        2. Vacation Bidding: Representatives from the Committee met with management to discuss the new vendor, AI Crew Solutions. It was determined that when a Flight Attendant either doesn’t hold a bid or forgets to bid, they will be allowed to bid in the 2nd round of vacation. The current process assigns slot 1 and slot 2. We will provide educational material and information when bidding begins next year on the new platforms. We have additional meetings to discuss implementation and buddy bidding. We are currently testing and reviewing the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) environment. 
        3. Flow Charts: These are posted on the AFA website to help guide you through contractual understanding and irregular ops here: 2025-2028 AFA Alaska CBA Reference Documents 01.26.2026
        4. Block2Block (B2B) Contactability: Implemented on February 1, 2026. Please familiarize yourself with the contractual language and bulletin bundle. Every Flight Attendant must check B2B at the end of every duty period (not trip) and make positive contact if a message is sent prior to block-in of the last flight of the duty period per §8.Q.2.e.
        5. Compensation: Follow up on crew pay issues and reassignment policies. Please give FA Crew pay at minimum a week to update compensation on irregular operations. 
        6. Pairings: Continue to address pairing and scheduling concerns with management.
        7. Software: Monitor upcoming software implementations and their impacts on operations. We will have another JCTE update in August 2026. 
        8. Sick Leave Tracking: Continue monitoring sick leave trends and review strategies to mitigate operational impacts.
        9. Notifications: Address communication issues regarding flight changes and notifications.

        On Tuesday, May 26, our pre-merger Alaska AFA Scheduling Committee Chairpersons and Representatives met virtually to discuss their ongoing work to represent our Flight Attendants and push for improvements in our workplace.         Topics of Discussion

        The Committee reviewed several topics during internal AFA-only conversations and when meeting with management. Some items discussed include:

        Local Committee Chairperson Discussions

        • Pairings Concern: Ongoing issues with pairings. 
        • Block2Block (B2B)- suggested implementing an audible alarm system for check-in to assist Flight Attendants.
        • Charter Operations: Charter timing issues are causing passenger frustration. Recommendations include timely scheduling and rebidding, with a commitment to improve pre-boarding processes. Communication with charter coordinators is planned.
        • Redeye Flights: Mention of numerous redeye flights affecting flight schedules.
        • D Position Flying: Noted aircraft downgrades affecting pairing operations, leading to reassignments rather than pre-cancellations. The contract had an incorrect citation, and our MEC and management are reviewing examples to determine a path forward.  
        • Crew Rest Areas: Concerns about long sits at PAE field; questioning the availability of adequate rest areas for crews.
        • Reassignment Pay Denial: Issues with reassignment pay being denied for specific city pairings. The Committee continues to discuss these issues with payroll. 
        • NAVBLUE Issues: Password reset issues were reported, and the PBS Subcommittee has been designated to assist Flight Attendants.
        • Pairing Preferences: Desire for more turns, specifically one-day trips with only two legs.

        PBS Subcommittee Update

        • Bidding Overview June Bidding: High activity was noted even before the bidding period opened. Concerns over high line averages and reserve percentages.
        • Bid Awards: Smooth process despite needing to adjust minimums for reserve coverage. Technical issues with the inflight website caused accessibility problems for Flight Attendants, requiring workarounds.
        • Bid Protests: Record high of over 200 protests regarding bid awards, primarily due to perceived errors linked to website issues and high line averages.
        • Meetings: Multiple meetings held throughout April and May, including low bid research and PBS focus groups.
        • Other Updates: Testing of software updates (26.1-MX-UAT) commenced with plans for implementation in July or August.

        Pairing Construction and Crew Planning

        • July Pairing Selection: Discussions around payroll, hotel, and transportation costs. Flexibility in trip distribution and lengths noted, with management using the optimizer for pairing construction.
        • Crew Planning Analysis: July block hours are up to 365K from 347K in June. 20% reserve ratio, 81.1 average line value. Offering no staffing adjustments for July. Pairings are red-eye: ANC 36%, SEA 30%, SAN 27%; lowest is SFO at 12%, LAX/PDX at 20%. The July trip distribution was reviewed for actual and percentages. Commuting SEA/SAN/ANC for 3 days is best; SEA/ANC/PDX for 4 days. PDX/SFO/LAX are the most challenging. 
        • RAVE Language: Discussion on improving four-day trips and TFP in the optimizer through computer data programming. 

        IRROPS (Irregular Operations)

        • Updates on various duty starts and operational requests due to construction delays and ATC issues, affecting multiple airports.
        • Crew connections increased due to delays, with specific minimum rest requirements for certain routes.
        • Current IRROPS:
          • SAN start of duty for JFK/BOS/IAD/MCO/DCA – construction delays
          • EWR is still at 12 hours for ATC delays
          • End of duty AM departures for EWR to LAX/PDX/SEA/SFO
          • Increased crew connections due to delays
          • Required duty start for LAS-ANC – Operational request.
          • PHX star flights have 11:30 minimum rest
          • 0500 departure GEG-PDX when operating increased to 12 hours rest
          • End of duty for DLG-ANC and AKN-ANC for summer TSA mitigation.
          • Flight Attendant teaming is still in effect.

        Crew Scheduling Report

        • Absence Rates: Sick leave at 12.1%, trending down, with lineholders slightly higher than reserves.
        • Reserve Utilization: System-wide utilization at 92.4%, with SEA highest at 98%.
        • Fatigue Reports: Noted fatigue incidents for both AS and HA, with overall trends of concern.
        • Reassignments and Deadhead Conversions: System-wide reassignments noted, with significant numbers in specific bases.
        • Specific Data:
          • Sick Leave – Absent rate for May is trending about 12.1%. Trending down in the overall count. Lineholder are 12.5%, and reserves are 10.5%.
          • Sick online 80 Flight Attendants and canceled 20 flights
          • Reserve Utilization – System is 92.4%, SEA is highest for May at 98%.
          • Premium Pay – Awarded: 85%; contractual: 15%. Significant days were Mother’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, and Memorial Day. For June, we have 24% reserve coverage. Management moved people to reserves instead of offering SALs. They are looking at cost-saving tips for contractual premiums, conversions, premiums, daily last flights, adding more personal drops, increasing TSN, and providing flexibility. They need to perform well in sick leave to help staff the operation. Launching initiatives to reduce over-duty premium. The high cost of fuel and the need for greater efficiency are driving these cost initiatives across all departments.
          • Personal Drops/TSN/Flexibility – Creating goals and incentives to produce flexibility.
          • Reassignments 10.R.4 – System-wide in May was 478, SEA was 191 compared to the other bases.
          • Deadhead conversions 10.X.7 – system-wide at 219
          • Fatigue – Total is 18 for the month. 12 reserves and 6 lineholders. We ended with 21 in April 2026.
          • Crew Schedulers – 2 in July, 1 in August, 3 in late August. 6 awarded positions are on hold due to a 120-day hiring freeze.

        Information Technology (ITS) Updates

        • Friendly reminder: Please ask Flight Attendants and AFA Representatives to create Cherwell tickets for all ITS-related issues so we can track them. Use the ITS help desk to file the concerns.
        • NAVBLUE/PBS:
          • Release 26.1.883 UAT Testing – In Progress.
          • Automation Updates:
            • 261 Test cases automated out of 269 [97% completed] – Web automation.
            • 234 Test Cases automated out of 269 [86% completed] – iOS automation.
        • Open Time Trade Analysis: 
          • 93,696 total trades, both legal and illegal
          • 91,940 (98.1%) of the total trades (illegal + legal) had a response time less than 10 seconds
          • 1756 (1.9%) completed in a response time greater than 10 seconds
          • May’s trade volume was higher than April’s.
          • Transaction times remained steady.
        • JCTE Releases:
          • Upcoming Releases
          • JCTE 10.0 MR24 – 6/2
            • FER bug fixes
            • Bid Period Drop Down Menu Selection Replaces Calendar Date Selection for Published Roster.
            • Published Roster for another crew member pulling the current bid period + 2 bid periods in the past.
            • Alert for schedulers to add when a Flight Attendant is contacted more than once during their rest period, and did not receive 10 hours rest prior to the second call, and has not received 10 hours rest since the second call
            • Fix for min/max TFP text messages and min/max duty period text messages.

        What The Committee Is Working On

Representing you at the meeting were Rebekah Olds (ANC), Rita Tillou (SEA), Melodie Anderes (PDX), Jaqui Bellenie (SFO), Kanako Yamado (LAX), and Kitty Cohen (SAN). MEC Scheduling Committee Vice Chairperson—Pairing Construction Karen Ferrell, MEC Scheduling Committee—PBS Subcommittee Member Adam Clarey, and MEC Scheduling Committee Chairperson Jake Jones were also present.

        Announcements

        • Upcoming Scheduling Meetings: May 26, June 23, July 21 (in-person), August 25, September 29, October 27, November 24, and December 29.
        • Scheduling Review Board (SRB): The SRB will meet on the first of each month from May through December 2026.
        • Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR): Scheduled out through October 8, 2026. Dates are on the MEC events calendar.
        • JCTE Update: A new update is anticipated in May 2026.
        • Pairing Selection Meetings: Scheduled monthly through December 2026 to discuss pairing selections.
        • Flight Attendant Open Time Monitoring: Active monitoring will occur on the 16th of each month, with specific times set for each base.

        MEC Committee Chairperson Report

        • Crew Backlog Review: The status of the crew backlog is still pending. Need to schedule upcoming dates. 
        • Crew Bi-Monthly Review: A review with ALPA is scheduled for May 21, 2026.
        • Known Crew Access Issues: A review meeting is set for May 27, 2026.
        • Rainmaker Crew Pay System: Meetings are scheduled for May, August, and November to address ongoing concerns.
        • Fatigue Review Board (FRB): A series of meetings throughout 2026 will monitor fatigue-related issues.
        • NAVBLUE Monthly Call: Regular calls scheduled through December 2026 will address operational updates.
        • Personal Drop Report Process: Updates are being integrated into JCTE, with specific attention to the Alaska system.
        • Pyramiding Pay Dispute: Discussions continue regarding issues related to over-duty and pay disputes.
        • 4K Dispute: A grievance has been filed by AFA concerning compensation for redeye flights and the night rule.
        • Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs): Ongoing discussions focus on various operational issues and self-help arrangements.

        • PDX: Significant feedback regarding leaves with an emphasis on awarding low bids. Expressed concerns over what appears to be micromanagement in Block2Block (B2B) chat.
        • SAN: An issue involving a pay premium for a reassigned Flight Attendant was highlighted, and Wi-Fi code errors were noted but did not require follow-up. If you experience errors with deadhead Wi-Fi codes, please contact Crew Scheduling. 
        • ANC: Concerns about disappearing Flight Attendant schedules and pay errors were raised. This is a known issue, and Flight Attendants should contact Crew Scheduling if this occurs.
        • LAX: Issues with four-day trips in Burbank and pay analyst errors were reported.
        • SFO: Discussions centered on reassignment and compensation issues.
        • SEA: Concerns about PVR cancellations and the need for improved communication were emphasized, along with reassignments and changing flying patterns.

        PBS Subcommittee Updates

        • Bidding Process: Increased bidding volume was noted in May, with challenges with some runs during SEA awards.
        • Bid Awards and Protests: Workarounds for website issues were implemented, allowing bid protest submissions via email.
        • Meetings: Various meetings were conducted, focusing on new initiatives and error messaging; the PBS system is now branded as “Skywise.”
        • Other Updates: Ongoing testing for PBS systems is in progress, with notable issues addressed.

        Pairing Construction

        • Staffing Policy Changes: Effective for June 2026, management is reviewing the possibility of offering staffing leave for that month. It is the Committee’s recommendation that management not offer leaves at this time to provide relief to Flight Attendants. 
        • June Pairing Selection: Agreement has been reached on utilizing the more cost-effective solution over other options for June. This includes considerations for hotel and transportation expenses, allowing for better financial management.
        • Review of Trip Length and Distribution: There is ongoing scrutiny of the length of flying and trip distribution. The focus is on optimizing routes to reduce costs, particularly during the summer months when demand is higher.
        • Processing 4 Position Pairings: The Committee is exploring the feasibility of processing 4-position pairings rather than the traditional 1- and 3-position pairings. This adjustment aims to enhance flexibility and improve crew efficiency.
        • Cost-Effectiveness Analysis: A detailed analysis of the cost implications of different pairing structures is underway. The goal is to establish a more efficient pairing system that balances crew needs with operational demands.
        • Historical Data Review: Historical data indicates a significant decrease in the viability of four-day trips. The Committee is analyzing how to increase the value of these trips to provide more flexibility for crew members.

        Crew Pay and Planning Updates

        • Crew Pay: An increase in inquiry counts in April was observed, along with a review of payroll trend data.
        • Crew Planning: Upcoming June block hours total 347k, with significant discussions on trip distribution and staffing leaves. Line averages will remain around 80 TFP, while reserve coverage should be 20% system wide. 
        • IROPS Mitigation: Various construction delays and adjustments to layover/connection times were discussed. The layover/connection restraints affect our pairings and what is available to bid. 

        Crew Scheduling Update

        • Sick Leave Trends: A decrease in sick leave usage was observed, with ongoing monitoring.
        • Reserve Utilization: High utilization rates across all bases were highlighted. Seattle has the highest utilization rates. 
        • Fatigue Reports: Reports are trending downward, underscoring the importance of successful fatigue management strategies. If Flight Attendants are fatigued, they should file detailed reports on the causes of the fatigue so the review board can make the most effective decisions and recommendations. 
        • Feedback Mechanisms: Improved communication and issue reporting processes were discussed to enhance operational efficiency.

        What The Committee Is Working On

        1. Resolving Pyramiding Pay Disputes: Discussions are ongoing through the Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) process to clarify payment rules for over-duty pay and day-off violations. Our Grievance Committee is filing grievances regarding several concerns with pyramid pay. These discussions are still ongoing with Labor Relations management. 
        2. Vacation Bidding: Representatives from the Committee met with management to discuss the new vendor, AI Crew Solutions. It was determined that when a Flight Attendant either doesn’t hold a bid or forgets to bid, they will be allowed to bid in the 2nd round of vacation. The current process assigns slot 1 and slot 2.  We will provide educational material and information when bidding begins next year on the new platforms. Our next meeting is scheduled for March 12, 2026. We have additional meetings to discuss implementation and buddy bidding. We are currently testing and reviewing the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) environment. 
        3. Flow Charts: These are posted on the AFA website to help guide you through contractual understanding and irregular ops here: 2025-2028 AFA Alaska CBA Reference Documents 01.26.2026
        4. Block2Block (B2B) Contactability: Implemented on February 1, 2026. Please familiarize yourself with the contractual language and bulletin bundle. Every Flight Attendant must check B2B at the end of every duty period (not trip) and make positive contact if a message is sent prior to block-in of the last flight of the duty period per §8.Q.2.e.
        5. Chime (Microsoft Teams): Implemented on February 9, 2026. This will allow Flight Attendants to contact Crew Scheduling for additional resources. Please refer to the letter of agreement and bulletin bundle.

        Scheduling Committee Meeting Recap – March 2026

        On Tuesday, March 24, our pre-merger Alaska AFA Scheduling Committee Chairpersons and Representatives met virtually to discuss their ongoing work to represent our Flight Attendants and push for improvements in our workplace. Representing you at the meeting were Rebekah Olds (ANC), Rita Tillou (SEA), Melodie Anderes (PDX), Jaqui Bellenie (SFO), Kanako Yamado (LAX), and Kitty Cohen (SAN). MEC Scheduling Committee Vice Chairperson—Pairing Construction Karen Ferrell, MEC Scheduling Committee—PBS Subcommittee Member Adam Clarey, and MEC Scheduling Committee Chairperson Jake Jones were also present.

        The Committee met with Managing Director of Inflight Performance & Crew Scheduling Sara Cook, Director of Crew Planning Trisha Bennett, Manager of Flight Crew System Support Sue Rawlings, Manager of Crew Pay Debbie Bakke, and other management representatives from Crew Planning, Crew Scheduling, information technology (ITS), payroll, and inflight performance.

        The Committee is next scheduled to meet on Tuesday, April 28.

        Topics of Discussion

        The Committee reviewed several topics during internal AFA-only conversations and when meeting with management. Some items discussed include:

        Announcements

        • Next Meetings: Scheduled for April 21 (in person), followed by monthly meetings through December.
        • Scheduling Review Board (SRB) Updates: Series of updates needed for various dates throughout 2026.
        • Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Meetings: Upcoming meetings from late March to October 2026.
        • JCTE Updates: New updates anticipated in May.
        • Pairing Selection Meetings: Regular meetings scheduled from April to December 2026.
        • AI Crew Solutions: First meeting held in November 2025 to discuss vacation awards and processing of unbid slots, with follow-up in March 2026. Meetings will be ongoing for implementation requirements.

        Local Committee Chairperson Reports

        • PDX: Inquiry about transfer allowances.
        • SAN: Updates on pyramid charts and premium pay conversion.
        • ANC: Pay inquiries resolved, but issues with waiving the 4K rule remain for charters.
        • LAX: Technical issues with Crew Access and messaging systems in-flight, such as B2B and Teams.
        • SFO: Concerns regarding SAL postings and premium OT trades.
        • SEA: Snowstorm impacts and pay questions; some concerns addressed through flowcharts.

        PBS Subcommittee

        • Bid Awards: Pairing line runs met reserve targets, with higher averages. Reserve line tuns were more challenging, especially in PDX, LAX, and SAN, requiring less-than-ideal solutions to meet staffing needs.
        • Bid Protest: 4K Rule Configurations: Configuration based on duty day, impacting charter awards. Management Actions: Temporarily holding off on building certain charters to avoid issues.
        • SSO Transition: Log-off testing impacting the transition to SSO; fix is pending.
        • Next release is currently undergoing testing

        ITS Update

        • Testing Automation: Ongoing processes to enhance efficiency.
        • JCTE Release: Next release in progress with consistent updates expected in May 2026

        Flight Attendant Crew Pay Update

        • February 2026 Trends: 2,371 total submissions, with 446 not applicable. 550 submissions are typically caught in the auditing process.
        • Analysts: Currently 6; more needed to handle combined operations.

        Crew Planning Update

        • Block Hours: Increased to 335k hours for April.
        • TFP Average Lines: 80 TFP average lines reported with 19% reserves.
        • Staffing Adjustments: 336 staffing adjustment leaves projected.
        • Redeye Flying: High in ANC, SEA, and SAN, with minimums of 10% across bases.
        • Pairing Solutions: Focus on minimizing long trips and improving commutability, particularly in SAN, SEA, and ANC.
        • Irregular Operations Mitigation: Adjustments were made for delays, including increased layover times for crew rest.

        Crew Scheduling Update

        • Sick Leave: Increased to 11.7% in March.
        • Reserve Utilization: 94.5% utilization noted across the system.
        • Reassignments: 849 total reassignments, mostly due to weather events.
        • Deadhead Conversions: 227 deadhead conversions recorded.
        • Fatigue Reports: Highest month for fatigue, with 26 reports submitted.
        • Crew Scheduler Staffing: Ongoing training for new schedulers; updates on staffing vacancies expected by June 1.

        What The Committee Is Working On

        On Tuesday, February 24, our pre-merger Alaska AFA Scheduling Committee Chairpersons and Representatives met virtually to discuss their ongoing work to represent our Flight Attendants and push for improvements in our workplace. MEC Scheduling Committee Vice Chairperson—Pairing Construction Karen Ferrell, MEC Scheduling Committee—PBS Subcommittee Member Adam Clarey, and MEC Scheduling Committee Chairperson Jake Jones were also present.

        Topics of Discussion

        The Committee reviewed several topics during internal AFA-only conversations and when meeting with management. Some items discussed include:

        Local Scheduling Committee Chairperson Reports

        • Downtrade Errors: Flight Attendants reported that attempts to downtrade are resulting in errors related to open time calculations. An investigation by the IT department is essential to identify the root cause of these errors and implement a fix.
        • Scrolling Issues: Crew members have reported difficulties scrolling on Crew Access interfaces when using iPhones. This issue is hindering their ability to access schedules and make necessary adjustments. A follow-up with IT is required to find a solution. They suggest trying a different browser at this time. 
        • Low Bid Options: Feedback from Flight Attendants indicates a strong preference for low bid options rather than the current Staffing Adjustment Leaves (SAL). This shift could improve crew satisfaction and operational flexibility, so further discussions with Crew Planning are necessary to explore viable options.
        • DHD Bookings: DHD (Deadhead) bookings are currently made well in advance when pairings are loaded.  However, crew scheduling only gets visibility to the deadheads in their systems seven (7) days in advance, which limits crew flexibility and may lead to operational challenges. A review of this process is needed to enhance scheduling flexibility.
        • Stranded Crews: Crews at BOS, JFK, PVR, and EWR have been stranded, raising significant concerns about pay discrepancies. They are expecting issues related to compensation due to the extended delays. A thorough audit is requested to ensure fair compensation for affected crew members. Payroll is aware of the strandings and will audit. 
        • Concerns About Communication: The response from the pay department raised concerns about the thoroughness of their review process. A follow-up with the team is needed to ensure responses are comprehensive and take into account all relevant communications when Flight Attendants submit inquiries. 
        • Hotel Compensation Request: A request for compensation for hotel wait time was denied for a Flight Attendant. However, it is believed that compensation is justified due to the circumstances of having to self-arrange accommodations after a flight. The issue will be escalated for further review.
        • Hotel Conditions: A serious issue arose when crew members were moved to a hotel without heating during a winter storm. This situation poses both safety and comfort concerns. A follow-up is needed to obtain a resolution.
        • Travel Adjustments: Due to a lack of hotel availability on the island of Kona, crews were moved to an alternate city (OGG) for their layover. Confirmation from payroll regarding these adjustments is awaited, as it impacts crew compensation.
        • Reimbursements for Stranded Flight Attendants: A discussion on whether reimbursements for flight attendants stranded on the East Coast can be processed is needed. Historically, a standard reimbursement of $25 has been provided, but current discussions will determine if this amount remains consistent across all bases.
        • Premium OT Review: A reassignment involving premium Open Time pickup was discussed, and the Committee conducted a review of the Premium OT and reassignment pay policies. If you are on a premium Open Time trip and reassigned, you are only paid reassignment for the flying above scheduled, not the entire sequence. 
        • Schedule Accessibility Issues: A Flight Attendant reported that her schedule had disappeared from the Crew Access system. This issue is preventing her from trading or picking up shifts, and it has been escalated to IT for urgent resolution. Discussions regarding potential compensation for the inconvenience, especially considering her status as a high-time flyer, are ongoing.

        PBS Subcommittee Updates

        • Bidding Assistance: For the March bidding cycle, there has been a high volume of requests for individual assistance, indicating that many Flight Attendants are struggling with the bidding process. However, engagement in virtual assistance sessions has been low, suggesting a need for better outreach. Common issues include cache clearing and password resets, which are causing significant barriers to accessing the bidding system.
        • Bid Awards: The results of the March bid awards show that higher averages led to better alignment with reserve numbers. Most bases exceeded their reserve requests, prompting adjustments to templates to ensure feasible solutions could be implemented. This balance is crucial for maintaining operational stability.
        • Bid Protests: An increase in SLG (Secondary Line Generation) emails this month has been noted due to a high SLG rate. Despite this, the overall number of protests has not been overwhelming, suggesting that concerns are being addressed efficiently.
        • Scheduled Meetings : Several meetings have been scheduled, including:
          • Monthly NAVBLUE call on February 5, 2026.
          • In-person bid awards on February 10, 2026.
          • Conversations with Crew Staffing to better understand the differences between SAL and low bid offers on February 10, 2026.
          • Focus group discussions related to NAVBLUE on February 19, 2026.
        • Upcoming Changes: The shift to Single Sign-On (SSO) is anticipated after March bid awards, pending additional testing to ensure functionality. The 25.7 Maintenance Release is currently being tested, with a note that it will not be implemented until the new 26/7 rule is rectified.
        • Collaborations with Other Airlines: The Subcommittee has met with representatives from Jazz, Air Canada, Breeze, and JetBlue to share best practices and explore features to advocate for in JCBA negotiations.
        • Low Bid Testing: The Subcommittee is currently conducting tests to demonstrate the positive impacts of low-bid awards in the bidding process. The objective is to encourage management to consider these options more broadly in future bidding cycles.

        Pairing Construction Update

        • April Pairings: The April pairings have been finalized, with the “B” run selected. There is a significant focus on minimizing the number of hotel stays for crews, which has led to an increase in deadheads. This approach is intended to reduce overall costs associated with hotels and transportation.
        • Challenges Faced: The planning of April runs has been complicated by incomplete launches; discussions with Jeppesen regarding the analysis are needed to ensure future runs are optimized.
        • Line Average: The current line average is 78 TFP (Trips For Pay), reflecting the crew’s workload and scheduling efficiency. Ongoing efforts to analyze and update pairing programs are essential for maintaining optimal operations.

        Payroll Subcommittee Update

        • Training Completion: Recent training sessions with key personnel have provided insights into the coding system and how JCTE imports function. Understanding when analysts override or change inputs is crucial for minimizing errors in pay processing.
        • Error Reduction Focus: There is a concerted effort to reduce errors and enhance clarity in the responses of payroll analysts. Feedback indicates that many analysts could benefit from additional guidance and training to improve their response accuracy.

        ITS Update

        • NAVBLUE Testing: There have been no new updates from NAVBLUE, which is awaiting test cases and validation under the UTA (User Testing Agreement).
        • TFP Calculators: Deployment has been postponed until March. This tool is expected to improve the accuracy of pay calculations for Flight Attendants.
        • Performance Metrics: OT trading has increased significantly by 20% compared to last month. Transaction times for system interactions are notably efficient, with 98.6% occurring in less than 10 seconds.
        • User Experience Improvements: Ongoing issues with scrolling on iPhones have been reported, suggesting that switching to alternative browsers may alleviate some of the problems. Recognizing this issue is critical for improving user satisfaction.

        Payroll Updates

        • Query Management: A significant reduction in total queries has been observed, from 2,593 in January, indicating improved efficiency in handling inquiries. 
        • Dispute Protocols: It is essential for Local Scheduling Committee Chairpersons to promptly communicate with payroll analysts about any disputes to ensure timely resolution and prevent further complications.

        Crew Planning Updates

        • April Block Hours: Block hours for April are slightly elevated compared to previous months, with line averages around 78 TFP and 18% of crews designated as reserves. This adjustment reflects an ongoing effort to optimize staffing levels.
        • Trip Distribution Review: A comprehensive review of trip distributions indicates that the best commutability is found for certain routes, such as SEA/SAN/ANC for three-day trips. In contrast, PDX/SFO is identified as more challenging.
        • IRROP Mitigation Strategies: Several strategies have been implemented to mitigate delays and improve layover rest times across various routes. Adjustments to connection times and layover durations are being made to enhance crew scheduling and reduce fatigue.

        Crew Scheduling Updates

        • Absence Rates: The sick leave absence rate has improved, with a notable decrease in overall figures. The absence rate was approximately 10.8% in January and 10.6% in February, with pmHA-specific metrics reflecting lower rates due to differing scheduling practices and contractual provisions. 
        • Reserve Utilization: System-wide reserve utilization is over 90%, with SEA at 95% and ANC at 83%. These figures highlight the need for strategic adjustments to effectively manage reserve levels.
        • Tracking Reassignments: The total number of reassignments for the current month remains low, reflecting operational stability and effective scheduling strategies.
        • Fatigue Management: Ongoing monitoring of fatigue levels shows a decline in reported fatigue incidents. This is crucial for ensuring crew wellness and operational efficiency.

        On Thursday, June 11, our AFA Inflight Service Committee Chairpersons met with management to represent our Flight Attendants and advance meaningful improvements in our workplace.
