iPhone 13 Inflight Mobile Device Distribution

Management will begin issuing new iPhone 13 IMDs next week to Flight Attendants who currently have an iPhone 7 or 8 Plus IMD. Flight Attendants will be paid 0.5 TFP for picking up the new device and performing the necessary setup tasks. If you’re not scheduled to work during the distribution period in your base, other pickup options, including direct shipping to the address of your choice at no cost to you, will be available.

January 2023 MEC Meeting Recap

Our AFA Alaska Master Executive Council (MEC) met this week on Tuesday, January 10, to conduct their ongoing work to represent our Flight Attendants. Due to contract negotiations taking place at the same time as the meeting, our MEC did not meet with management as part of this month’s meeting. The next Regular MEC Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 14, and Wednesday, February 15. Please don’t hesitate to contact your LEC President if you have any questions.

Negotiation Session 7

Steady progress continues, with discussion ongoing on eight sections. To date, we have tentatively agreed on twenty-six sections. The next negotiation session is January 24-26.

Human trafficking is a crime that occurs when force, fraud, or coercion is used to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act from another person. January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Help by taking a stand against human trafficking and recommit to ending it on our planes. Join the third annual #WearBlueDay on January 11th to help build public awareness about the ongoing fight to end human trafficking.

Our AFA Scheduling Committee Chairpersons met on Tuesday, December 27 to discuss their ongoing program of work to represent Flight Attendants interests related to lineholder scheduling. The Committee also met with management to receive updates and discuss issues and problems that Flight Attendants are experiencing with scheduling, pairings, and bidding. December 2022 Pacific Northwest Winter Weather Event

The snow and ice accumulation that occurred over the last several days in the Pacific Northwest has caused operational havoc throughout the Alaska Airlines system. Many Flight Attendants are being impacted by cancelled flights, reassignments, and other scheduling issues. Your contract is one of the best resources to help answer questions about pre-cancellations, reassignments, duty times, and rest. The AFA Scheduling Committee has also put together an updated quick reference guide with some key contractual information. If your flying has been impacted by the winter weather and you have contractual questions or concerns, please open a support ticket using the AFA Alaska Online Support Center. AFA Representatives are working to resolve issues as expeditiously as possible.

Don’t Underestimate the Effects of Alcohol

Many people enjoying celebrating during the holidays, which often includes having alcoholic beverages. Alcohol can affect decision making abilities and reaction times long before other outward signs of intoxication become evident. Overconsuming alcohol can lead to reckless decisions, blackouts, and dangerous consequences. If your holiday plans involve consuming alcohol, remember to drink responsibly. Have a designated sober driver or order a taxi or ride share.

Joint Contract Negotiations Session 13 – March 2026

Our JNC met this week for three days of collective bargaining with management. The JNC focused on clarifying questions about moving expenses and presented a proposal for Sick Leave, using feedback from Flight Attendants to guide improvements. The Committee is working to incorporate the strongest elements from both contracts to ensure better support for all members.
