Joint Contract Negotiations Session 10 – December 2025

This message is for both pre-merger Alaska and Hawaiian Flight Attendants

  • Our JNC met with management this week on December 9 to December 11 in Seattle; our next negotiation session is scheduled for January 27 to January 29
  • A Tentative Agreement has been reached for Section 27 (Association General)
  • Our JNC continues to analyze the Vacations Section of both the AS CBA and the HA CBA alongside the vacation survey results

Negotiations Update

Our AFA Alaska + Hawaiian Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) met this week for three days of collective bargaining with management. The JNC met with management on December 9 to December 11 in Seattle, WA. At the negotiating table for this session were:

During this negotiating session we continued to narrow issues in Section 15 (Leaves of Absence). The JNC also received the company’s first proposal on Section 24 (General and Miscellaneous). We were able to reach a Tentative Agreement (TA) on Section 27 (Association General) and secure additional resources to support our growing Flight Attendant group.

The JNC has also begun the process of meticulously analyzing Section 14 (Vacations). During this process, we are also reexamining the vacation survey results in conjunction with assessing the vacation provisions.

Section by Section Progress

The Alaska CBA will be used as the basis of the joint contract for language purposes. Each section and provision from both contracts will be reviewed individually to incorporate and amend the strongest elements from each agreement.

  • Association General (AS CBA Section 27 and HA CBA Section 22)

Sections discussed in this session:

  • Leaves of Absence (AS CBA Section 15 and HA CBA Section 17)
  • General and Miscellaneous (AS CBA Section 24 and HA CBA Section 27)

Sections in ongoing discussion:

  • Commuter Policy (AS CBA Section 26 and HA CBA Section 34-28)
  • Training (AS CBA Section 30 and HA CBA Section 26)

Sections listed below are on hold until discussions regarding future sections, which affect specific provisions, take place.

  • Seniority (AS CBA Section 6 and HA CBA Section 9)
  • Grievance Procedures (AS CBA Section 19 and HA CBA Section 23)
  • Charters (AS CBA Section 33 and HA CBA Section 12)

Sick Leave Survey

Thank you for taking the time to participate in the Sick Leave Survey. We had a total of 3,358 Flight Attendants take part, which is consistent with our previous surveys. Your responses, including partial responses, will be reviewed and taken into consideration during the evaluation process.

Local Council Meetings

Our Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) attended the Joint LAX Local Council Meeting with Council 18 (Alaska LAX) and Council 47 (Hawaiian LAX) on Friday, December 12 in Los Angeles. Our next stop will be in Honolulu during the month of January. Please check your Local Council communications for updates about future meetings.

HNL Reserves Utilization for LAX Coverage

This message is for pre-merger Hawaiian Flight Attendants

It has been brought to our attention that our HNL Reserves are being sent to LAX for coverage with trip assignments that may or may not be consistent with the provisions of our CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement – Contract). This is actively being addressed by our HNL LEC 43 Leadership Team, Martin Gusman and Kela Chong.

If this is happening to you, please do the following as it applies:

  • Document your experiences! 
  • File an SCR
  • Keep timestamps. This is to ensure that you are receiving proper rest and compensation
  • While the Company is obligated to ensure your accommodations, it is always recommended to confirm your crew accommodations such as hotel and transportation to and from the airport upon communication with CS.
  • Complete DIRTD (Delay In Return To Domicile) filing if necessary and refer to Section 3.M.1.a.b for the parameter overview of language, calculation and pay.

Important To Know

  • You MUST be given a schedule that returns you to HNL – not just a one way assignment to LAX
  • CAN NOT be given an ARC assignment and a deadhead assignment as a single assignment for the same day. You CAN be given an ARC assignment, then assigned to DH on that day.
  • CAN NOT be on “STANDBY” or assigned a Reserve Availability Period “RAP” in LAX to be on standby at the Crew Hotel.
  • You MUST be given ten (10) hours free from duty and a minimum of nine (9) hours “Door to Door” uninterrupted rest in the hotel from arrival to departure of the crew. 
  • Rest CAN NOT be interrupted unless flight is delayed at which time, CS CAN contact you 90 minutes prior to roll time from hotel
  • You CAN be assigned to work an originally scheduled DH as a Reserve, or a pairing within your duty limitations in accordance to the Contract. Rest, duty time and positive contact made, will determine the legality for such assignment.
  • Positive contact CAN be from a company representative (GSA, Station Manager, Inflight Manager, etc).

Holiday Pass Travel Reminder

This message is for pre-merger Hawaiian Flight Attendants

As we head into the busy holiday season, a quick reminder for anyone planning to bring family on a layover while you are working the flight. Your first responsibility is always to your working assignment, so please be sure to have a solid back up plan in case your family cannot make it on your intended flight.

For those pass traveling on their own, please remember that peak travel brings unpredictable loads and operational challenges. Always have a back up plan so you are not left stranded or unable to return home as planned.

It is important to remember that Pass Traveling (Non-Revenue Travel) is a company benefit and not a right that is furnished by the Contract. This benefit is not something the Contract allows protections on for violations should it result in the suspension or revocation of your pass travel privileges.

Travel safely, plan ahead, and enjoy the season.

Our JNC encourages all members to participate in the Reserve survey, regardless of your current Reserve status. Whether you are on Reserve now, pick up Reserve days occasionally, or have not been on Reserve recently, your input is valuable. The survey will be open until Tuesday, October 20 at Noon PT.
