HNL Reserves Utilization for LAX Coverage

        December 4, 2025 17:20

This message is for pre-merger Hawaiian Flight Attendants

It has been brought to our attention that our HNL Reserves are being sent to LAX for coverage with trip assignments that may or may not be consistent with the provisions of our CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement – Contract). This is actively being addressed by our HNL LEC 43 Leadership Team, Martin Gusman and Kela Chong.

If this is happening to you, please do the following as it applies:

        • Document your experiences!
        • File an SCR
        • Keep timestamps. This is to ensure that you are receiving proper rest and compensation
        • While the Company is obligated to ensure your accommodations, it is always recommended to confirm your crew accommodations such as hotel and transportation to and from the airport upon communication with CS.
        • Complete DIRTD (Delay In Return To Domicile) filing if necessary and refer to Section 3.M.1.a.b for the parameter overview of language, calculation and pay.

        Important To Know

        • You MUST be given a schedule that returns you to HNL – not just a one way assignment to LAX
        • CAN NOT be given an ARC assignment and a deadhead assignment as a single assignment for the same day. You CAN be given an ARC assignment, then assigned to DH on that day.
        • CAN NOT be on “STANDBY” or assigned a Reserve Availability Period “RAP” in LAX to be on standby at the Crew Hotel.
        • You MUST be given ten (10) hours free from duty and a minimum of nine (9) hours “Door to Door” uninterrupted rest in the hotel from arrival to departure of the crew.
        • Rest CAN NOT be interrupted unless flight is delayed at which time, CS CAN contact you 90 minutes prior to roll time from hotel
        • You CAN be assigned to work an originally scheduled DH as a Reserve, or a pairing within your duty limitations in accordance to the Contract. Rest, duty time and positive contact made, will determine the legality for such assignment.
        • Positive contact CAN be from a company representative (GSA, Station Manager, Inflight Manager, etc).

        For Visual Purposes Only

        Proper AssignmentImproper Assignment

        Holiday Pass Travel Reminder

        December 3, 2025 17:35

This message is for pre-merger Hawaiian Flight Attendants

As we head into the busy holiday season, a quick reminder for anyone planning to bring family on a layover while you are working the flight. Your first responsibility is always to your working assignment, so please be sure to have a solid back up plan in case your family cannot make it on your intended flight.

For those pass traveling on their own, please remember that peak travel brings unpredictable loads and operational challenges. Always have a back up plan so you are not left stranded or unable to return home as planned.

It is important to remember that Pass Traveling (Non-Revenue Travel) is a company benefit and not a right that is furnished by the Contract. This benefit is not something the Contract allows protections on for violations should it result in the suspension or revocation of your pass travel privileges.

Travel safely, plan ahead, and enjoy the season.

        Council 43 Update – November 26, 2025

        November 26, 2025 10:42

This message is for pre-merger Hawaiian Flight Attendants

Yesterday the SEA Negotiating Committee announced that we have reached an agreement with management to open a Hawaiian Flight Attendant domicile in SEA and that the agreement was ratified by the Master Executive Council (MEC). As your Local Council President and a member of the SEA Negotiating Committee, I would like to address a few important provisions of the agreement and the reason for MEC ratification.

This is an important deal with improvements and protections for Hawaiian Flight Attendants. There are no givebacks – there are only gets – including the elimination of the 787-9 One-Way Staffing Carve Out and the reduction of the ER crew-to-load provision to 85%. Two of the most important protections we secured are the right for Hawaiian Flight Attendants to return their domicile of origin beginning with the ratification of a JCBA and protection against involuntary assignment to SEA for 18 months. Without these two important protections, Flight Attendants would be at greater risk of either not being able to return to domicile of origin or being forced to move to SEA.

That brings me to the reason for MEC ratification. I believe that protections that give Flight Attendants and their families the peace of mind to know that they will remain attached to their home, whether here in the islands or Los Angeles, are extremely important. I believe protections as important as these must be secured when the opportunity presents itself. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be forced to move to SEA to in order to continue your career as a Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendant but at the cost of leaving your family behind in Hawaiʻi. Family means everything. If we care about our fellow Flight Attendants, their well-being, and their families who support them, we should understand that securing these kinds of protections are an absolute must.

It should be noted that the AFA-CWA Constitution and Bylaws provides that ratification of letters of agreement shall normally be by Master Executive Council vote only; however, the Master Executive Council of an airline may vote for membership ratification of a particular side letter. Here at Hawaiian, the letters of agreement that have been put out for membership ratification were either for concessions (cuts to pay and/or work rules) that affected everyone or new equipment acquisitions like the A321 and the B787-9.

Given all of these considerations (the improvements in the letter of agreement, that it provides protection that helps to keep Flight Attendants and their families connected to their domicile of origin, and the well-established practice of letter of agreement ratifications at Hawaiian), I fully support the MEC ratification of the Seattle Domicile Letter of Agreement. It is the right thing to do if one cares about our fellow Flight Attendants and their families.

        In Solidarity,

        Martin Gusman
        President
