Negotiations Update April 16, 2014: Update Email/Phone Info, Upcoming Survey, Committee Interviews, etc….

        April 16, 2014 11:35

        Dear Flight Attendants,

The current Negotiating Committee just finished reviewing the draft professional survey prepared by Hart Research Associates. We are very pleased with the results. The professional survey is expected to be live beginning next week. The survey will have two phases: initial interviews will be conducted by phone for a limited number of Flight Attendants and then followed by an online survey for the remainder of our group. An estimated timeline for negotiations-related events in April and May is below.

All Members in Good Standing (those who are dues current) for which we have an updated phone number will have the possibility of participating in the phone interview starting next week. It is critical that you update your phone number (and confirm your email address) before the survey begins. Only Flight Attendants for which we have an updated phone number will be eligible to participate in the limited phone interviews.

The Master Executive Council (MEC) has made it extremely easy to update your information. Please be assured your contact information will be kept confidential by AFA and Hart Research Associates. Your email address and/or phone number will absolutely not be shared with Alaska Airlines management or other third parties.

Simply click the following link to update our database:

AFA Alaska Negotiations Email/Phone Update Form.

If you already receive email from the MEC, we have your email address on file. All Members in Good Standing for which we have an updated personal email address will have the opportunity to participate in the online interview. (Important: alaskaair.com addresses will not be accepted.)

Help AFA get out the word by passing along the information to your fellow Flight Attendants in person and on social media. The above link is also posted in the “Important Links” on alaskamec.org.

Save The Date – Mobilization and Solidarity Activity May 20

        April 9, 2014 13:05

        Dear Flight Attendants,

As we are scheduled to go back to the negotiating table the week of May 12, the time has come for us to again demonstrate our solidarity. Your MEC has selected May 20 as the date for our next mobilization activity. We hope to have a strong showing to management this day in all bases. If you would like to participate, please bid May 20 off.

The activities on May 20 will be coordinated by our Mobilization Committee. If you are interested in becoming a Mobilization Volunteer, training is currently scheduled in all bases for the week of May 12. For more information about mobilization training, please visit alaskamec.org/mobilization and review the mobilization training section. The activities on May 20 are in addition to the mobilization training the week of May 12.

More information will be coming soon about the activities we have planned that day as well as how you can become involved. In the meantime, please continue showing your solidarity by wearing your AFA pin and staying informed by visiting alaskamec.org or facebook.com/alaskamec.

        In Solidarity,

Your MEC – Jeffrey Peterson, Brian Palmer, Yvette Gesch, Becky Strachan, Laura Masserant, Cathy Gwynn, Sandra Morrow and MEC Mobilization Chairperson Adam Clarey

        Introducing the Mobilization Committee

        March 20, 2014 20:30

        Dear Flight Attendants:

The VOICE (Volunteer Organizers for Information, Communications, and Education) Committee has served us with distinction over the past several years during contract negotiations.  The MEC would like to thank these committee members for their dedication and contribution to AFA.  Today, we announce a new chapter, as the VOICE Committee evolves to become the new Mobilization Committee.

As we gear up for another round of negotiations, demonstrating our solidarity and unity is more important now than ever before.  Bringing Flight Attendants together through participation in organized solidarity activities will be the primary responsibility of the Mobilization Committee.  The Committee will also work to actively share information pertaining to negotiations and help Flight Attendants to find and access official sources of information.

        Mobilization Volunteers

The backbone of our mobilization efforts will be our Mobilization Volunteers.  Volunteers will provide support to the Negotiating Committee through coordinated solidarity activity and two-way communication between the membership and the committee.  They will work closely with the Local Mobilization Chairperson to call other members to action through participation in organized solidarity activities and a program of information sharing with Flight Attendants.

Specific duties of a Mobilization Volunteer include:

        • Responsible for educating the membership and moving them to action.  They will provide information and support for targeted issues or specifically identified groups of Flight Attendants as defined by the Negotiating Committee.
        • To further the Flight Attendants’ understanding of key issues through active information sharing and referral to official sources of information
        • To dispel gossip, rumor, and inaccurate information regarding negotiations by directing Flight Attendants to official sources of information
        • To provide two-way communication of the needs and responses of the membership through feedback to the Local Mobilization Chairperson and the Negotiating Committee
        • Actively participate in organized solidarity activities such as canvassing of membership at airports and crew rooms, informational leafleting or picketing before the general public, or other activities as approved by the Master Executive Council (MEC)

        How To Get Involved

In order to get involved as a Mobilization Volunteer, plan now to attend one of the upcoming mobilization training sessions to be held in May.  Sessions will be held as follows:

        • Anchorage – Monday, May 12 – 10 AM to 12 PM / 1 to 3 PM
        • Seattle – Tuesday, May 13 – 8 to 10 AM / 11 AM to 1 PM / 2 to 4 PM
        • Portland – Wednesday, May 14 – 10 AM to 12 PM / 1 to 3 PM
        • Los Angeles – Thursday, May 15 – 10 AM to 12 PM / 1 to 3 PM
        • San Diego – Friday, May 16 – 9 to 11 AM / 12 to 2 PM

In order to sign up for one of these sessions, visit the online registration form here: http://alaskamec.org/mobilization/training.  Once you’ve registered, be sure to mark your calendar and plan to bid the day off.  Please note that space in each session is limited and registration will close once capacity is reached.

We are excited about the new Mobilization Committee and look forward to the opportunity to demonstrate our combined resolve for the contract improvements that we deserve!

        In solidarity,

Your MEC – Jeffrey Peterson, Brian Palmer, Yvette Gesch, Becky Strachan, Laura Masserant, Cathy Gwynn, Sandra Morrow and MEC Mobilization Chairperson Adam Clarey
