On-Site LAX Manager

Since the departure of Gina Lorenzo, your officers have seen a significant lack of in-person support in Los Angeles for our Flight Attendants. We made it clear to management that the current system is not working, and that virtual briefings alone do not provide the level of support our Flight Attendants need.

Following Gina’s departure, there was a possibility that Alaska would hire a Hawaiian-specific manager for LAX. After further strategic planning, the company decided instead to move that vacant manager position to San Diego, where they intend to expand Alaska flying.

That said, we strongly emphasized the importance of having a consistent, in-person support manager in LAX. We need someone who can serve as a reliable “go-to” for administrative, operational, and day-to-day support.

In response to our concerns, the company moved quickly. LAX Alaska management will be stepping in to provide increased support. We were also told that they have always wanted to support our group, but had been approaching the situation carefully out of respect for our Hawaiian workgroup during this transition. Even if Alaska management is not fully familiar with our operation or contract, they can still serve as a point of contact to help obtain answers and ensure appropriate company follow-up.

In the coming weeks, you will begin hearing more from Alaska managers, and we expect a designated point of contact to be identified. With ALL interaction with management, we encourage you to ALWAYS have a union rep with you or cc us (47@afahawaiian.org) in your email discussions.

We will continue to advocate for the level of support our Flight Attendants deserve and will keep you updated as things develop.

LAX Widebody Gate

For months, Terminal 6 has been operating with only one wide-body gate due to ongoing airport construction. We were advised that construction on the second wide-body gate remains on schedule and is expected to be completed sometime in April.

The reopening of this gate should help reduce arrival wait times when our flights come in.

Thank you for your patience during this construction phase. We know how frustrating it has been, especially when flights have had to arrive at remote gates.

HNL Airport Standbys (ARC) at LAX

The company has seen an increase in sick calls recently. As a result, they have been positioning HNL reserves at the LAX Village to help cover flying.

We want to remind everyone that while sick calls are a contractual right, the frequency of usage can impact overall base reliability and, ultimately, the type of flying assigned to LAX.

Please continue to take care of your health, but also be mindful of how these patterns can affect our operation as a whole.

NGP LAX Visits

We have begun the early stages of planning for our annual NGP (National Group Protection) visits for LAX, and we are currently targeting dates in June.

NGP is a voluntary benefits program available to AFA members that offers access to supplemental insurance plans, such as accident, disability, critical illness, and other coverage options, at special AFA group rates. These plans are designed to provide additional financial protection beyond your standard benefits.

NGP only offers open enrollment once a year, so it is important to pay close attention to upcoming communications and plan your schedule accordingly when the time comes.

LAX Base Sits

Starting in April, we will begin coordinating base sits. These visits may include or be a combination of your officers, chairs, and committee members, and are an opportunity to connect with you before your flights, hear your concerns, and share important updates.

Hawaiian Seattle Domicile Council 43 and Council 47 Meeting Recap

This message is for pre-merger Hawaiian Flight Attendants

  • A MEC Grievance has been filed over management’s requirement for proof of relocation to qualify for the flat rate payment, with AFA contesting the change and moving the dispute to arbitration
  • The SEA Domicile Negotiating Committee has been addressing the vague and inconsistent guidance regarding “reasonable” moving expenses
  • Flight Attendants are encouraged to copy the SEA Domicile Negotiating Committee on related emails to ensure compliance

Council 43 and Council 47 SEA Domicile Meeting

The Negotiating Committee would like to acknowledge and thank everyone for their participation and engagement in the SEA Domicile meetings. The Negotiating Committee understands that there are still many questions about what qualifies as  “reasonable” actual moving expenses for reimbursement and the flat rate payment. Despite the grievance AFA filed and pending arbitration, we have been engaging with the company to work through these issues, but have only received vague, unclear, and conflicting guidance. We have been appealing to management, emphasizing the need to communicate clear, consistent guidelines for the Flight Attendants.

Thanks to the many of you who have cc:’ed the SEA Domicile Negotiating Committee (SEA NC) on your communications with management.This has brought to light these inconsistencies.  If you are experiencing any inconsistencies with the Inflight Administration regarding these issues, please copy the SEA Domicile Negotiating Committee (using the “cc:” function, add “SEA@afahawaiian.org“) on your emails so we may monitor and address them to ensure contractual compliance.

Meeting Recap

  • Address Changes will trigger tax changes and a qualifying life event for medical insurance. Health insurance is subject to our contractual requirements, which will not change. Please contact the People Resource Line (PRL) if you have any questions at 1-844-899-3617 (Monday to Friday 5 AM HT to 4 PM HT) at PeopleResourceLine@alaskaair.com. To verify provider participation, please contact your insurance provider directly.
  • If you will be Commuting, it is in your best interest to register as a commuter. Please review the Commuter Policy Letter of Agreement and register using your Hawaiian Airlines SSO (Single Sign-On) here. Alternatively, Flight Attendants may search “Commuter Policy” on the IFS (InFlight Sharepoint) website.
    • After the PSS (Passenger Service System) Cutover on April 22, boarding priority will be based on the Hawaiian Airlines company year of hire, followed by check-in time. Employees will maintain their company seniority for pass travel privileges. The earliest check-in time will be available 24 hours prior to departure (local time of the city of departure)

  • Moving Expenses
    • Flight Attendants may delay claiming the moving expense and requesting reimbursement up to 12 months from the effective date of the transfer:
      • For April 1 transfers, the deadline is March 31, 2027, and,
      • For May 1 transfers, the deadline is April 30, 2027.
    • If electing Actual Moving Expenses, the limitation for expenses covered will be from domicile to domicile or actual cost of the move, whichever is less, and up to 1500 cubic feet or 15,000 pounds for household goods and personal effects. As an example, if a Flight Attendant is moving from Honolulu to Orlando, Florida, the company will only cover the portion of the cost that is equal to a move from Honolulu to Seattle (domicile to domicile); anything in excess will be the responsibility of the Flight Attendant.
      • Please contact Inflight Administration at HA.Inflight.Admin@alaskaair.com for the following:
        • To request Positive Space, you may request positive space on either Hawaiian Airlines or Alaska Airlines
        • For Space Available Cargo Shipping, please contact 1-800-225-2725 to coordinate your reservation. Form SP-28 must be completed, indicating that you have been awarded a relocation to SEA. The SP-28 Form is available through Inflight Administration.
        • For any Pet Shipping that requires special handling please reach out to Gary.Ichimura@alaskaair.com to facilitate any special approvals
        • You are also eligible for reimbursement for transportation of up to two personal vehicles, shipping arrangements are the FA’s responsibility.
    • If electing Flat Rate Expenses, AFA is currently disputing the company’s unilateral implementation of proof of relocation requirements. Please be aware that if proof of relocation is not provided in accordance with management’s demands a Flight Attendant’s payment may be denied or clawed back if already received. Those who elect the Flat Rate options are not entitled to Settling Expenses as outlined in Section 5.F.
  • Pick-Ups between SEA-based Flight Attendants and those out of domicile will be subject to the ETCH rules which protect the flying out of each base. A Flight Attendant can pick up trips as long as there is no conflict with moving days and training and the trip has cleared the 12-hour hold of the ETCH folder.
  • Starting April 25, SEA-based Flight Attendants will begin to wear the newly distributed Dreamliner Uniform. In the interim, between April 10 and April 24 Flight Attendants will continue to wear the Hawaiian Airlines uniform. Flight Attendants based in HNL and LAX will be able to order the new Dreamliner Uniform at a later date.
  • Immersion Training will be located at the Alaska Airlines Global Training Center which is located at 1301 SW 16th Street, Renton, WA 98057. Clothing attire at this training should be in line with the company’s Uniform Guidelines. Discussions are still being had for Immersion Training opportunities for Flight Attendants in HNL and LAX.

AFA encourages Flight Attendants to voice your opinions and concerns at the upcoming Inflight Insights Townhall on Tuesday, March 31 at 2 PM PT and 11 AM HT on Microsoft Teams. Inflight management will be taking live and pre-submitted questions. Here is your chance to get the clarification and answers to questions directly from management. Please use the Hawaiian SSO to submit a question here. We strongly encourage all non-operating Flight Attendants to participate.

Flat Rate Grievance Update

An MEC grievance was filed on February 23, 2026, regarding the Moving Language Violation, requiring proof of relocation to qualify for the flat rate payment. AFA’s stance is that Flight Attendants are able to qualify for the flat rate payment in lieu of actual moving expenses without providing proof of relocation. The flat rate payment allows the Flight Attendant to establish essential necessities at their new domicile. This includes, but is not limited to, establishing a crashpad and transportation. Management’s new requirement is a unilateral change by the company that AFA did not agree to. Management believes they have the ability to require documentation. The initial hearing for the grievance was held on March 13. A decision denying the grievance was rendered on March 19. AFA is moving forward with an arbitration.

If you are unable to provide the company requested documentation:

  • Document all interactions with the management regarding your denial of the Flat Rate moving expense
  • Flight Attendants may copy (cc:) the SEA Domicile Negotiating Committee (SEA@afahawaiian.org) in any emails with management
  • Flight Attendants who are wrongly denied the Flat Rate, or who are paid the Flat Rate which is subsequently wrongly recouped by management, will be included in the grievance.

Council 47 SEA Base Update – FLICA Information

Seattle Base – FLICA Information

Aloha All,

For those already awarded April Schedules, you will be under SEA trade rules in the April folders. You’ll remain at your current base through the end of March. For the May FA group, you’ll have access to your SEA pairings in the May folders and remain in your base for April.

Please note the following:

  • ETCH – ER, Turns, Charters, Holiday pairings still require the 12-hour hold from 0600-1800 LDT (local domicile time) 
  • ER Segments must be posted in the ETCH folder and clearly marked in the comments as to which leg it is. It can be picked up according to seniority and processed in that folder. 
  • Non-ETCH remains first-come, first-served.
  • Open time Folder is closed and processed at 1800 HST
  • GDO pickup / Trip Request folder processed at 10:30 LDT
  • Reserve trades are still processed manually in the NANI folder.
  • RSA closes and is processed at 1:30 LDT
  • You may only pick up NANI and Cleared-ETCH pairings in HNL or any LAX pairings with duty times at 14 hours or less. These are considered “Off-base” trades and are manually processed.

Membership Meeting – LAX and SEA Updates

This is a reminder that Council 47 will be hosting a Virtual Membership Meeting on:

The meeting will begin with a SEA Base Update, where members of the SEA Negotiating Committee and your Local Leadership will provide important updates and answer questions—especially for those transitioning to Seattle or wanting more information about the new domicile.

Following that, we will transition into a LAX Base Update Meeting, focused on updates specific to LAX, along with an open forum to address any additional questions or concerns.

With an upcoming LAX Management tie-in meeting next week, this is a great opportunity to share your feedback so we can bring your concerns directly to management.

Council 47 LAX Update – March 2026

LAX Update – March 2026

Aloha LAX,

March has been a very busy month for your Officers and Chairs so we would like to take a moment to recap some the events that have been happening.

Board of Directors Meeting – Portland, OR

March 9-12 the Board of Directors meeting was held in Portland, OR. Local Presidents and MEC Officers from every airline represented by AFA gather to discuss, debate and vote on changes to the AFA-CWA Constitutions and Bylaws. A few momentous and significant things happened at this years Board.

Dues Increase

Starting in June, AFA members will see an increase in dues. When AFA merged with CWA, part of that agreement required AFA to maintain membership dues at no less than the CWA average. Due to outdated systems, CWA was unable to provide an accurate dues average for many years. With updated technology now in place, CWA has confirmed the current average at $65.36.

Each airline’s MEC will have the ability to request a member rebate over the next three years to help phase in the full amount. Additional details will be shared by the MEC.

To be clear, the Board did not vote to raise dues. This adjustment is required to comply with the merger agreement between AFA and CWA.

Agenda Item #8 – Timeline of Merging of the MECs During an Airline Merge

Council 47 LEC President Josh Aoki authored an agenda item to extend the timeline for merging MECs during an airline merger. Under the existing policy, MECs are required to merge within 90 days of financial close, which often occurs rapidly.

At the Board of Directors meeting, Josh spoke in support of the agenda item explaining the challenges we at Hawaiian and Alaska have and continue to go through with the quick merging of the MECs and was met with a standing ovation. The agenda item was subsequently amended and unanimously approved, extending the MEC merger timeline to 12 months.

Edith Lauterbach Award – Beth Hayes

Beth Ann Hayes was awarded the Edith Lauterbach Award at this years Board of Directors Meeting. She was nominated by Josh for the following reasons. For many, she is the first call when help is needed, a reflection of her consistency, reliability, and unmatched follow-through. Beth ensures no member concern goes unanswered and no issue is left unresolved. What truly sets Beth apart is that she does this work without ever seeking recognition. She leads with humility and a genuine commitment to our union, our members, and the principles of solidarity and representation. Her impact on Council 47 is lasting, and this nomination is a reflection of the standard she has set for all of us. Scott Henton, former Hawaiian MEC VP, was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing the decades of service to AFA and the Hawaiian Flight Attendants.

California Labor Federation Legislative Conference

Council 47 LEC President Josh Aoki and MEC/LEC Government Affairs Chair Bruni Agosto-Pinal attended the California Labor Federation Conference in Sacramento from March 16–18.

During the conference, delegates voted on endorsements for the upcoming midterm elections. Candidates are considered for endorsement regardless of party affiliation, with a primary focus on their voting records related to labor issues and the protection of workers’ rights. An official endorsement list will be shared for your consideration as you prepare to vote.

Following endorsement day, labor leaders engaged in discussions on several critical issues impacting unions and workers, including the rise of AI in the workplace and concerns over ICE targeting union members.

In addition to participating in the conference, Bruni visited the California State Capitol to meet directly with state legislators and their staff. During these meetings, she advocated on behalf of Flight Attendants and organized labor, emphasizing the importance of protecting worker rights, strengthening labor standards, and addressing emerging challenges facing our workforce.

Pass Travel Open Enrollment

Pass Travel Open Enrollment – NOW ACTIVE

Pass Travel Open Enrollment is now underway and will close on March 24

During this enrollment period you may

  • Change your existing travel companion (primary traveler)
  • Remove parents and replace them with secondary travelers
  • Verify student status for children ages 18-25

If you would like to add a new eligible traveler—such as a spouse, domestic partner, biological child, guardian/foster child, domestic partner’s child, parent, or stepparent—you will need to contact the People Resource Line (PRL) at 844-899-3617 or email Employee Travel at Employee.Travel@alaskaair.com for instructions

Your leadership advocated for in-person support in LAX to ensure our Flight Attendants have the same access to resources as HNL. Unfortunately, the company has advised that they are unable to offer in-person sessions in LAX due to limited resources, though they have indicated they are still exploring possibilities. If that changes, we will update you immediately. Alaska Inflight Supervisors have begun attending Hawaiian briefings and are available to assist with Alaska pass travel-related questions during this transition.

This week, the AFA Alaska + Hawaiian JNC engaged in four days of collective bargaining with management in Seattle. Despite presenting a comprehensive proposal to address Section 19 (Grievance) and Section 30 (Training), the committee and the company were unable to reach an agreement. The JNC remains dedicated to securing the best possible outcome for our members.
