AFA Online Issue Reporting Is Here!

        June 13, 2017 15:00

Your AFA Alaska Master Executive Council (MEC) is excited to introduce the new AFA Alaska online support center.  This new system is designed for you to document and report scheduling and reserve concerns, situations where you might be facing discipline, potential contractual grievances, and any other issue where you might need AFA support.  The system will also allow AFA representatives to better track issues that are occurring, identify trends, and address and resolve issues with management.

You can access the system using the following link:

        http://support.afaalaska.org

        Reporting New Issues

You can report a new issue in the system by opening a ticket, just follow these steps:

        1. Visit http://support.afaalaska.org/
        2. Click the blue “Open a New Ticket” button
        3. Fill in your personal information (including a non-company email address)
        4. Select the help topic that relates to the issue
        5. Fill in the issue-specific information and provide details

From this screen, you’ll also be able to attach pictures, PDF files, screenshots, and other information that will help your AFA representatives to have more information available about the issue.

Once you’ve opened a ticket, you’ll receive a confirmation email and with a ticket number.  Behind the scenes, your ticket will be assigned to an AFA representative who will assist you with the issue.

        An Update on Printed Contracts

        February 18, 2016 05:00

        Contracts and Binders Available Soon

After a lengthy formatting and production process, hard copy contracts have finally been published and are being shipped from the printing vendor to each base. The hard copy contracts will be distributed along with a new blue plastic contract binder (similar to your Flight Attendant Manual binder), which is currently still in production. Management has advised that the binders should be shipped within the next 10 days. Once the contracts and binders have been received in each base, we will provide you with more information as to how distribution will be accomplished.

TA2 vs. Final Contract Printed Comparison Documents

As a reminder, a comparison document highlighting the difference between TA-2 and the final contract continues to be available on the AFA Alaska website and can be found here: http://wp.me/a46aMs-1HP. A limited number of hard copies of the comparison document will also be available in the bases with the printed contracts.

In the mean time, you can continue to access the contract online at http://afaalaska.org/contract and on your IMD in the GoodReader app.

        In Solidarity,

Your MEC – Jeffrey Peterson, Brian Palmer, Yvette Gesch, Lisa Pinkston, Laura Masserant, Cathy Gwynn, Sandra Morrow and Stephen Couckuyt; and

Holiday JA and Printed Contract Updates

        January 11, 2016 17:00

        December 2015 Junior Assignment

AFA met with Inflight management last week to debrief Junior Assignment over the holidays. AFA focused on the new contractual language and explored why JA went so senior in several bases. It was a very productive meeting, and both parties were left with homework to do with regard to the JA lists. We will have a more complete report out for you once the parties compare notes this week. Be assured AFA is working diligently to ensure contractual compliance and, if appropriate, to achieve the much-improved compensation for JA out of order pursuant to Section 9.D.1.e.

        Printed Contract

The “formatted” proofs came back from the printer but were unacceptable. The printer took the 8.5” x 11” document and simply shrank it down to fit into a 5.5” x 8.5” format. This reduced the font to an unreadable size.

We are now in the process of reformatting the document “in house” and expect the document to be sent to the printer next week. The printer will produce another proof and send it back to AFA and management for approval. If all looks good, then it will go to press.

You will also be receiving a durable hardcover for the contract similar to our Flight Attendant Manual but with a thinner spine. The Company is covering the cost of printing and will be distributing the contract per CBA §27.A. [Distribution of the Agreement]. The Company is picking up the cost of producing and distributing the hardcovers as well.

AFA Alaska Airlines Collective Bargaining Agreement 2014-2019

        November 23, 2015 17:00

Electronic Contract with Hyperlinked Citations and Index

AFA and Alaska Airlines management are finally ready to publish the electronic contract with hyperlinked citations and index. We hope you will find the document much easier to use on your mobile devices compared to prior versions. Besides the link below, you can find the contract and active letters of agreement at afaalaska.org/contract. Management will also be pushing the contract to your Inflight Mobile Device.

If you click on the hyperlinked citation references, the document will reposition to that citation. If the citation is a sub-paragraph within a main “header,” the hyperlink will take you to the header and you simply have to scroll down to the desired paragraph. At the bottom of every page you will find a link for the Table of Contents, the Index and the Reference section. The Reference section shows a list of the main headers within each section as well as the letters of agreement. All of the citations are hyperlinked throughout the document for ease of reference.

Although we have scoured the contract many times over, with a document as complex as this one there are bound to be a few errors such as incorrect or broken hyperlinks. If you find something amiss, email the Contract Committee at contract@afaalaska.org. It is possible to periodically update the electronic contract as needed to correct those minor errors.

TA2 Print vs Final Print Versions Comparison

There have been several contractual improvements and clarifications added since the TA2 Print version. In order to make it easier to identify the changes, we have created a comparison document that highlights differences between the two. The comparison document is produced using a computer program that catches the vast majority of differences, but it is not infallible. Be aware there may be a few citations that are not highlighted even though the citations differ between the versions.

        –> Printed TA2 v2 vs Final Printed Copy v1 thru LOA6 Comparison <–

        Hard copies

The contract will be sent off to the printer shortly, and we expect publication to take several weeks. AFA and management are ordering enough for every flight attendant to have a trade paperback sized hard copy of the contract. As soon as we have the details regarding an estimated release date and the means of distribution, we will provide an update.

        * * *

It has been a long time coming—we thank you for your patience! If you have any concerns or questions, please contact your LEC president.

        In solidarity,

Your MEC—Jeffrey Peterson, Brian Palmer, Yvette Gesch, Lisa Pinkston, Laura Masserant, Cathy Gwynn, Sandra Morrow and Stephen Couckuyt; and
