[AS] Follow-Up on Jeppesen Crew Access Issues

        May 15, 2017 18:30

Crew Scheduling management has advised AFA that the issues reported by Flight Attendants earlier today with Jeppesen Crew Access (JCA) appear to have been resolved.  If you encounter any issues with JCA going forward, please report them to your Local Scheduling Committee.

AFA realizes that JCA continues to create frustration for our Flight Attendants despite our ongoing efforts to resolve the numerous issues that have been previously identified and continue to develop.  We will keep holding management accountable for resolving these issues as expeditiously as possible through ongoing advocacy and by filing contractual grievances as warranted.

        In Solidarity,

Your MEC – Jeffrey Peterson, Brian Palmer, Linda Christou, Lisa Pinkston, Laura Masserant, Cathy Gwynn, Melissa Osborne, Tim Green, Brice McGee and MEC Scheduling Committee Chairperson Zac Weeks

Open Time Issues and New Start Time

        May 15, 2017 09:42

I was made aware of the issue with open time not allowing drops at 9:00am today.

Zac Weeks, AFA MEC Scheduling Chair is in touch with management and they are working on the issue.

We have a new start time for 10:00am to make it as fair as possible, instead of randomly opening it.

Apologize for the inconvenience and I will communicate more later today.

Please do not contact scheduling they will not be able to assist you.

        In Solidarity.

        Important Information Regarding Open Time

        April 14, 2017 17:00

A message from your AFA Scheduling Committee

In preparation for Open Time this Saturday, some changes to Crew Access have been made to help minimize the spinning propeller issue that occurred last month.

If you should encounter the spinning propeller, Jeppesen suggests that you continue to submit any additional trades, even if the propeller is still there. They are working on a permanent fix for this issue but want you to maximize the opportunity to manage your schedules in the meantime.

        Reminders

        • Check your Published Roster for the most accurate roster information. Hamburger Menu > Reports > Reports on Demand > Published Roster
        • Print your pairing by clicking the blue pairing number in your Roster View
        • Flight Loads are now available approximately 5 days before your trip. To view Flight Loads. FA Website > Schedule & Bidding > Flight Loads
        • When picking up a SIP, verify your report time. Trips may show the report time as the same time as departure. You must report 1 hour before scheduled departure.
        • When using the Filter “Show only premium pay trips” it will show all the trips that had premium pay associated with them. For example, a FA picks up a premium pay trip, then Advertises it for Grab. It will show in the filtered trips using this Filter, but premium pay will NOT follow the sequence. Section 9.E.3.

        How to Split/SIP a trip

In the example below, the Flight Attendant would like to Advertise SEA-DFW, DFW-SEA as a SIP for Grab.

        1.  Add the trip to your Trade Cart
        2.  Select Split activity
        3.  Select the flight, in this case AS719 SLC-SEA, before the portion of the trip wanting to be sipped.

        4.  Select After (In this case the F/A wants to sip the portion of the trip after SLC-SEA.)
        5.  Select the trade option and complete the advertisement

You will see ½ of a green line next to your trip in your Roster View once your trip has been successfully advertised.

Please review the training video for additional information about Splitting a Trip. FA Website > Schedule & Bidding > Crew Access Help > Tutorial Videos & Guides

        Recurrent Training

Recently, you may have seen the addition of FRS2 for recurrent training in Seattle. There is not a difference between FRS1 and FRS2. You may trade and pick up either one. So, if you are awarded a FRS1 and you want to trade into another date that has FRS2, your trade will be approved. You may also click on the grey triangle on the top right to see the list of flight attendants who will be attending that class.

Once dual recurrent trainings are offered in Seattle, FRS2 will be used to indicate an afternoon recurrent training.

Open Time Negotiations Update – March 3, 2017

        March 3, 2017 17:00

        Open Time negotiations this week

The AFA Negotiating Committee (NC) and Alaska Airlines management met again February 28-March 1, 2017, in Portland to negotiate a new Open Time system. As you may recall, our current open time system was implemented on a trial basis. AFA chose to end the trial, which put us into negotiations for a new system. Our contract states that we will revert “Back to Book,” which was the Open Time system in effect under the previous contract. For information, see “Back to Book” following the signature block below.

Meanwhile, the parties will negotiate a new system. However, this cannot be accomplished until some computer programming is done, which may take several months. The current system remains in effect until then.

We are very close to reaching a tentative agreement

The NC is pleased to report that we are very close to reaching a tentative agreement (TA) with management. Both sides have worked hard to create an Open Time system that is easier to understand than the current one, gives Flight Attendants more schedule flexibility and does not negatively impact the operation. The parties will meet again on April 18th in Seattle, and we hope to be able to announce a TA after that session.

Master Executive Council approval, membership ratification and roadshows

If everything goes according to plan, the NC will present the Open Time TA to the Master Executive Council (MEC) at the scheduled meeting April 25-26. The Local Executive Council (LEC) presidents will vote whether or not to accept the TA for membership ratification. If the MEC approves the TA for membership ratification, all members in good standing (dues current) will have the right to vote on it. Assuming the TA is approved by the MEC for a membership vote, the NC is anticipating roadshows sometime during the month of May.

The Negotiating Committee thanks you for your support and patience, and we hope to see you at a roadshow somewhere around the system in May!

        In Solidarity,

Your Negotiating Committee – MEC President Jeffrey Peterson, Kristy Stratton, Lisa Pinkston, Christina Frees and AFA Senior Staff Attorney Kimberley Chaput

        Back to Book

AFA has received several requests from our members to refresh the group on the “Back to Book” provisions. We are definitely intending to put together a membership release dedicated to that topic as soon as we get a chance. As you can imagine, the Jeppesen Crew Access (JCA) cutover and the subsequent fallout has kept AFA busier than usual. If you would like to familiarize yourself with “Back to Book,” refer to Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) §12 Exchange of Sequences: Back to Book, which follows the regular CBA §12 of your contract; most of the related provisions are in CBA (BTB) §12.F [Trades with Open Time]. See also AFA Grievance No. 36-99-02-18-11 “Withholding Open Time Award” at the back of the contract immediately following LOA 6 [Contract Implementation Schedule].

All Open Time Trips Withheld and Premium Pay Removed

        February 9, 2017 14:30

All trips in Open Time coded as premium and then subsequently withheld

At approximately 9:15am Pacific Time this morning, AFA became aware that all trips in Open Time were coded with premium pay. MEC Scheduling Committee Chairperson Jake Jones was notified shortly thereafter that all trips in Open Time were being pulled and recoded without the premium pay. That’s right—all trips in Open Time across the entire system were withheld and premium pay removed!

AFA has filed a grievance on the issue

AFA has already filed a grievance on the issue, and Master Executive Council (MEC) representatives have been in communication with management. Pursuant to clear contractual language in CBA §9.E [Premium Open Time] and §12.E [Open Time], AFA has informed management that the more than 400 Premium Open Time trips across all domiciles must be restored with their applicable premium in order to be in contractual compliance. Our understanding is that all trips were returned to Open Time without the associated premium by around 11am PT. AFA’s position is that premium must also be paid on any Open Time trips previously coded as premium that were or are subsequently picked up. (Contractually this would not not include Open Time trades or Reserve self-assignment.)

AFA and management have a follow-up meeting scheduled for later this afternoon

Management is currently considering AFA’s assertions, and we have a follow up meeting scheduled for later this afternoon. AFA will provide an update as soon as possible after the meeting concludes.

        In Solidarity,

Your MEC – Jeffrey Peterson, Brian Palmer, Linda Christou, Lisa Pinkston, Laura Masserant, Cathy Gwynn, Tim Green, Brice McGee; MEC Scheduling Committee Chairperson Jake Jones; and MEC Grievance Committee Chairperson Stephanie Adams
